Ilker, the owner, met us at the bus depot and swiftly drove us back for a beautiful swim after a hot day travelling. His English was excellent, and although his in-laws had no English, they were very friendly and helpful. Ilker is a very efficient and knowledgeable manager, but please note that he accepts only cash for payment but there is a cash machine not far away. The rooms were totally adequate and sleep was easy after the locals had gone to sleep at about 11:00pm. This hotel is an easy walk to the centre of the town but a taxi is needed to get to the Ephesus top entrance (Cheap from memory). We opted for meals at the hotel and these were fine and good value. A good place to stay while visiting the wonders of Ephesus. Note: be wary of "archaeologists" who happen to be not working that day and have discovered an ancient coin that they just happen to have for sale.....

Pretty ordinary kind of hotel but well placed for the sites in Selcuk and Ephesus and the owner was wonderfully helpful. Great advice on when and where to go and how to get there- even offering to drive us to Ephesus so that he could drop us off at one gate and pick us up at the other. Good food, rooms etc. The small pool and garden were lovely to cool off in in the afternoon.
Fit for purpose.

We chose Hotel Nazar after seeing two other hotels (all with good reviews on Trip Advisor) on arrival in Selcuk one evening in Sept without reservations. We parked our rental car, and walked around town looking at the hotels we had read about. We chose Hotel Nazar based on its location (down a small side street off the main road through town, close to everything – we could park right next to the building), very reasonable price, nice people, garden pool, and comfortable bright room (rooms in the other hotels we saw were dark, we found). Ilker (a former tour operator with excellent English) kindly drove us to pick up our rental car back in town, to show us exactly how best to drive to the hotel and where to park our car. Our room was basic but clean and comfortable, with AC, a balcony, and two comfortable twin beds (which were pushed together for us), and a bathroom with a good shower. The street outside the hotel gets very loud with voices (especially children playing) in the evening, but quiets down by 11PM it seems. Wifi worked perfectly in the room. We enjoyed the pool after a hot day of visiting ruins and walking around town. We opted to have dinner our first night up on the hotel’s rooftop, which they offer for 10 Euro per person (for several courses – meze, soup, salad, main, and fruit). It was so good, and such a nice setting, that we chose to do the same the next night (we noticed that other guests did the same). Excellent food, nice service from nice people, and a nice night-time view of the town and hilltop castle in the distance. We really liked this little hotel, and highly recommend it.

We booked this hotel based on reviews we saw on T/A.
Rooms are very basic for the price even though we booked a suite(no difference to standard room except it has a minibar). The bathroom was small. There is a bath with a shower attached. We had no hot water at all and the bath was very weird, sloping and slippery and the second morning as careful as I tried to be I fell and got hurt.
The breakfast is not buffet - they serve you - very basic only tea, coffee,a boiled egg,no fruit, bread, yogurt if you want,a plate of cut cucumbers and tomatoes, butter and jam.
Yes Ilker is friendly, but he wasn't there when we arrived, was picked up by his father-in-law who cannot speak English.
It is close to downtown selcuk -a 10 min walk but far to Ephesus. We walked to the bus station -10 min and hired a taxi(10 lira) to take us to Epesus top gate. You can walk to the castle and Isa Bey Mosque though.
On the whole, this would be my last option to stay(we could not get other hotels anyway).

Room Tip: Not sure.Ours faced the swimming pool, but you could see the rubble dumped in neibouring yards so it was not a good sight.

ILKERSEN, Owner at Hotel Nazar, responded to this reviewResponded 9 October 2013

Our Dear Guest,
I would like to thank you for sharing your comments here and we are very sorry that you did not enjoy our hotel.
Please allow me to address your complaints.
- The price difference between our rooms is based on the size of our rooms. We never introduce the room as a suite room as is common with locally owned hotels in Turkey.
- The bathroom that you found small is bigger than 5 meter square. With all due respect, we have never had a negative comment on the size of our bathrooms as most guests have felt comfortable in that space.
- You also mentioned about the slippery bath tub. They all get slippery once day get wet. I couldn’t understand what you mean by saying weird and sloping. It is just a regular bath tub.
- You said there was no hot water. We have 2 different water heating systems. One is solar and the other is electric. When solar power is not enough electric system back it up. At the time you were here none of our clients mentioned about lack of hot water including you. If an occasion should arise, we would have happily addressed the problem at the time of your complaint because I'm very confident that we invested the proper resources to insure consistent hot water.
- The breakfast we serve is a typical Turkish Breakfast. I’m so sorry that you didn’t enjoy it. It is an important part of Turkish tradition and customs to share our traditional breakfast. Turkish breakfast is a standard fare in most local restaurants from Istanbul to Selcuk.
- You also complained about my father cannot speak English. It takes only 3 minutes from the bus station to hotel. Normally, complimentary drives do not guarantee an English-speaking driver, especially when they are 3 minutes. I would have been happy to answer any questions you might have had about the local area or the destination.
- I would like to clarify the location of our hotel. It is only 3 minute walk to town center not 10. The distance from our door to Ephesus entrance is 3 kilometers. The closest hotel to Ephesus is 2,5 kilometers away.
- And your last complaint is about the look of the neighborhood. The location of our hotel is residential area of Selcuk. Not the hotels section. It is real life here, so you can see rubble dumped courtyards, children playing on the streets, orange trees or a castle from the 8th Century. It all depends where and how you look. The vast majority of our clients have been extremely happy to reside in a normal Turkish neighborhood due to the hospitality of the locals. We do not seek to compete with major hotel chains and resorts, because we strive to introduce our guests to contemporary Turkish life, which most of them have found to be charming.
Sincerely
Ilker SEN

Ilker Sen makes you feel at home. Our room was comfortable and the food was very good. Anything we needed or had questions about, Ilker was there to help. Definitely the place to stay in Selcuk if you are planning a trip to Ephesus.

Room Tip: Ask about the family rooms
