Reception looked like a four star, the rest of the hotel 3 at best.

When we arrived at checking we were told that our card was declined, not looking at the paperwork properly, they dismissed us and sent us to another nearby hotel. Because of my husband was not having any of it, we went back to the hotel and asked them to check it again. Well it was their fault we had the reservation all that time, after all the misunderstanding resolved.
A friendly porter on his first day at the job apologising, took us to our room, just to find a very small room with a double bed and the view well, very disappointing, a massive hole in the ground with lots of noise during the day, that didn't bother us as we was out all day, however at night there was this monotonous noise of generators all night long. Even though the windows were double glazed. Not a very peaceful stay.

Ipek Palace looks really good from the outside. Really pretty and nice reception. First problem is that it's surrounded by 2 building sites at the moment, and they are very noticiable. But we didn't think much about it because they can't control their enviroment. The problems started after we checked in and went into the hotel. We had the 6th floor, but the real 6th floor is for the restaurant, so it's like an annex that feels like another building that was added after (we could glance some of what we thought would be the "nice" rooms and they were even smaller and looking the same way than ours)
The corridor had badly folded rugs that are a serious hazard (I can trip on flat floors!) but we thought they were cleaning. We later learned that it wasn't the case. The doors of the rooms have a big space on the upper and lower sides, making it very easy to hear anything from the rooms next door, and there was very apparent plaster behind the radiator and under the window.
The toiletries were laughable (ear buds, a shower cap and a smal bottle of shower gel) and they were never replenished. There was not even a single shelve in the shower and the doors wouldn't close properly. And the towels were changed only if they were obviously dirty (like with make up or stuff like that).
They had tried to make the walls pretty with some nice wallpaper. Shame one strip was in one direction and the other one upside down.
No tea/coffee making facilities and only one single plug in the whole room that you have to share with the TV and the mini bar (another thing that was never replenished and we had to buy our cokes in the shop around the corner). And we are 99.5% sure our bed sheets were not changed in the 5 days we were there.
These are just some of the reasons that come to my mind (if you go, pay attention to the wallpaper in the restaurant, it's legendary) but there were more.
If you want a great location (that's true), a reasonably clean place and hot water, this is a good place, but it doesn't deserve the 4 stars. I've been to 3 stars hotels better than this.

The room was comfortable, well decorated and clean. The hotel is in the old town and perfect for sightseeing being near the main attractions. Breakfast on the top floor with fine views was very good. As the hotel is partially a conversion of an old building, the doors are not sound proofed and it can be a little noisy. Would definitely stay there again.

The Ipek Palas has a really great location near all of the major sights such as the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace etc. Check in and out was very smooth and very, very quick and the staff on reception were always very helpful, well presented and cheerful.
Our room was on the top floor and though the view was not great it was very clean, modern, fresh and spacious. The beds were very comfortable and the bedding clean and crisp.
Breakfast was very nice and there was a wide selection to suit all tastes.

Criticisms: We ate at the hotel restaurant one evening, service was poor, the food was really not all that good and many things on the menu were not available. Also being two female travellers the barman who always seemed to be lurking about thought that it was fair game to harass us every time we had to walk passed him to get to our room which became a bit tedious. Other than him though the staff were great.

Overall a good hotel for the price and definitely one to consider as your base in Istanbul, very clean and conveniently located.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. We were given a tiny room with a tiny double bed (lucky we are both quite skinny) and a window looking out to a brick wall - we were not very impressed. The TV only has about 3 channels in English. The breakfast was good and it was nice to go up and see out a real window! However the rooms were clean and the bathroom was large (pity they didn't make it a bit smaller and the room bigger!). The hotel also failed to deliver everything described in their website - in this case a kettle - a small thing but they should not purport to provide facilities if they do not actually provide them. I wouldn't mention it but the reception did not actually believe me when I stated this to them, and it required me to actually show them their webpage where the kettle was indeed promised - the customer certainly is not always right according to the hotel staff! I think you would feel very cheated if you payed the full 120 euro rate that is stated at the reception!
