The best thing about this hotel was how friendly the staff were. It's ideally located for walking to all the biggest attractions of the old city and good transport links to the rest of Istanbul. There are lot's of bars and restaurants close by as well as the Market

We booked a room through Last Minute Secret Deals and, after reading reviews, were uncomfortable with our choice. We contacted the hotel and for a cost of 25 euros per room per night were able to upgrade to a superior room.
We were quite satisfied with our room which was spacious and comfortable and reasonably priced. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the breakfasts offered plenty of choice with which to start the day. The noise from the construction site next door was noticeable during some nights but the hotel obviously had little influence over this.
Of great advantage was the location of the hotel as it provided easy access to the major sites of Istanbul.

Room tip: Upgrade for a more comfortable and spacious room. Avoid Last Minute Secret Room deals.

Myself and a friend recently toured 4 cities in Europe over 11 days. We booked our hotels in 3 of the 4 cities using "secret name" websites and each time we picked hotels with 4 or more stars. Two of the three hotels we booked were very nice hotels that easily lived up to their 4 star billing. The third hotel was the Ipek Palas. Our room was very small and had almost no furniture and a tiny television. The bathroom was cramped and not very clean - there was mold in the shower as well as on the ceiling. We asked for an upgrade but were told that the hotel was fully booked.

I have stayed in hundreds of hotel rooms having been a elite status member of a major hotel chain's rewards program for multiple years, so I know what typical 4 star accommodations look like and the Ipek Palas did not provide us with 4 star accommodations. Judging by the pictures on their website they appear to have 4 star quality rooms, but we were not given such a room.

I can see that the guest relations manager routinely responds to reviews here by saying that guests that use these "secret name" sites are given economy rooms and they are welcome to upgrade to a better room when checking in, but that is a deceptive practice. If a 4 star room is booked on these sites a 4 star room should be provided.

In our opinion this hotel should not be listed as 4 star. At best it is a 2 star hotel when booking through "secret name" websites.

The location of this hotel is excellent, a 10 minute walk to the main sites and a five minute walk to the Bosphorus and the Galata Bridge - could not be better. There are masses of restuarants and bars on neighbourinmg streets and the T1 tram stop is 5 minutes walk away (buy the Turkish equivalent of an Oyster card for the trams and ferries). The hotel staff are warm and friendly and the breakfast was plentiful. My partner booked the hotel and i dreaded, after seeing some of these reviews, what the bedroom might be like, but both it and the bathroom were of an adequate size. The wardrobe could have been larger and there could have been more drawer space.unfortunately our room faced onto the construction site nad work continued into the night. they are building a new Mass Transit line to go under the Bosphorus, and I doubt that they will be finished any time soon. having said that, it is hardly the hotel's fault and the bed was so comfortable that I slept like a log all week. The hotel is fine - but it is certainly not 4 star, the woodwork in the bathroom needed repainting and the airconditioning was ineffectual and on occasion noisy - but for what it was and its location we were happy that we had got a decent deal.

Lets start from the first day, when I arrived from airport tired and just wanted to get rest I was told that the hotel is over booked and there is no room for us though I booked and paid in full 6 weeks ago. We were asked to stay at the hotel just down the road just for 1 day and they will move us back to the Ipek palas tomorrow for us to do this they agreed for a airport Transfer (to which I replied I have already pre booked mine) Then they said they will offer us a free dinner and upgrade us to a superior room. well we had no choice but to agree as the hotel was fully booked. Now the hotel down the road was just a joke, probably a 2 star hotel located just right to the main tramway line and the whole room would literary shake as the tram pass by.
Well the day passed and we went to Ipek palas, we were then checked in to a room so called superior room, I asked them again is it superior room they re- confirmed it. I then smiled and nod my head. I have stayed in allot of 4 star hotels, this superior is worse then their normal economy room. It doesn't stop here the both tiles were tired and broken, the shower head was broken, the air condition was noisy and had a mind of it's own, would work when ever it felt like it. Now the dinner which we were offered. It is an ok dinner.

We asked for sugar once, as I was making tea that never arrived and we eventually left for dinner.

There is construction side right next to the hotel but you can't blame the hotel for it. The only thing i liked about it was the breakfast.

All in all I was not happy with the overall service.

Dear Guest

Thanks for your comments about us.We would like to clarify some points related to your review.Becuase of hotel was overbooked,we were lack of economy double and other room type. For this reason in order to apologize ,a bigger standard room (which is more expensive than your economy room) from neighbour hotel was arranged for your comfort .On your arrival day hotel staff explained you hotel’s situation and offered you different alternatives as being a solution. To apologize for this inconvenience some favors offered to you. After your confirmation about room and favors, you accommodated in neighbour hotel. On next day hotel staff gave a real superior room what was promised to you.Your room absolutely is superior double including large bath.If you supposed this superior is worse than economy room, why you preferred to stay in that superior room instead of economy ?? We checked our records but could not find any maintenance request from you.We would like to inform you that your dinner was not an ordinary dinner. That was the same as any other food served to other guests in our restaurant. We hope to see you in our hotel.

Kind Regards
