We were looking for a central accommodation option that would allow us to walk to the main sites and to avoid Istanbul's traffic. Family Istanbul provided just that. It's a basic hostel with superb service, better than in some of the luxury resorts I have stayed in before.
We got a spacious room with 2 double beds and a window overlooking the jazz club across the street. Yes, it means some live shows till about midnight but I must admit it was quite fun to go to bed with some classic tunes in the background. On the downside, beds were hard and not very comfy.
The bathroom is small and super basic, but clean. There were no problems with the hot water as mentioned in some other reviews. Breakfast was good and fresh, but don't eat too much as Istanbul has a lot to offer for foodies.
There's a good candy shop nearby that is worth checking out, as well as some restaurants. The Blue Mosque is 5 minutes away up the hill.
Overall, highly recommended for those of you who are willing to give up on luxuries in return for an amazing location in the heart of Istanbul's old city.More
