I landed at the Attaturk International Airport and I took the metro here to the Topkapı-Ulubatlı station. I then walked about 1.8km to the hotel. It doesn't go through the best neighborhoods but I felt safe.I got there and was quickly given my room. I asked the hotel receptionist many different things and they always helped me. I never met the owner like others said they did but maybe because I was just one person. This is not a fancy hotel. Its a nice, clean and simple hotel that is near the Faith and Balat neighborhoods of European Istanbul. Its also 30meter walk to the Chora Church museum, which is being renovated right now.

in the western districts, near the CHora Church, is this gem of a hotel. the restaurant downstairs is best in Istanbul. people are friendly. i've stayed in front room on 1st floor, and suite on 2nd floor. both rooms very large an incredible value. the small shopping area nearby, as well as cafe, are so much more pleasant than crowded areas of Istanbul (which is now everywhere). walk or taxi down to Golden Horm, take teleferrico to Pierre Loti, ferry to Sultanhmet. Thank yo Mr. Batur and your staff.

This hotel is in a great location, off the beaten track, in an interesting neighbourhood of Istanbul. Getting to the city center might look far, but if you like a stroll through the neighbourhood, you can travel in by boat which is a lovely start to the day. The hotel has a great restaurant, loved by local food-lovers. We were given a room in a different building than the main place. Many reviews complain about this extra building as smelly. We found it was okay. Not luxurieus, but okay. For the last night they made us move to a different room in the main building with actually was much smaller than what we have had before. The fact that we had to move was a real nuisance and not well communicated. Good value for money in our case.

This oasis of calm in the hurly-burly of Istanbul is the perfect choice for those who relish the peace and quiet of a traditional Istanbul quarter with the additional plus of having not only the world-renowned Chora Church next door but also one of the city's most renowned restaurants, the Asitane, within its walls.
This hotel is staffed by the most professional and courteous people who obviously care deeply about their clients. Just around the corner is a leafy square with an excellent all-day cafe where you can dine on traditional Turkish fast food or simply stop by for a tea or coffee. Taxis are stationed outside the hotel and cost 20TL to get into town.
The Kariye is about mid way between down town Eminonu where you can catch a ferry or walk to Sultanahmet for the mosques and the Pierre Loti cafe at the top of the Golden Horn and is therefore ideally placed for both.
The small minuses include absence of hot water in the shower, power sockets hanging off the walls, lack of local information, (we had to prize it out of reception rather than have it offered), and a general lack of TLC of the building.
Having said that, nothing should put you off staying here. Istanbul is a frantic place. If you want to be able to retire to a peaceful spot for a night's sleep, look no further. You can almost imagine Agatha Christie staying here.
