Just got back from a trip to Istanbul and I have to say the visit was great except for the accomodation! Cheers hostel put us in a second adjacent building which was under construction. Even though the room itself looks good and finished there was no heat for 2 days (10 degrees temperature) and mold on the ceiling (from water damage above), not to mention the constant paint fumes and construction noise from the floor above as they tried to finish the room above us, each night until 10 pm.
In North America, the place would never be rented until it was completely finished. It simply isn't acceptable to have no heat, construction noise until late at night, and mold hazard. When we complained, they finally brought in a space heater and more blankets. That is all. I do not think I would stay here again, as there is a hotel next to this place, charging only 20 euros more per night than this one for a private room for 2 people.
Other than that, the breakfast was great, the location awesome. The free wifi internet usage was very useful.More
