In a country with so many Wats it is easy to grow tired of visiting them. Eventually they all look the same. Wat Si Saket is different. It is older in style and layout. There are over 6000 Buddha’s in the Wat. Some of these are damaged during invasions and were collected and stored at the Wat. The main building is decorated with fine detailed paintings. Most are faded with time but are visible when you take the time to look carefully.
Entry price is low and location near the presidential palace means you will probably be passing some time during your trip, if there is only time to visit one Wat in Vientiane make sure Wat Si Saket is that one.

One of the temples in the capital. This one was quite nice to visit since it was not so crowded and the monks were doing their daily chores.

The buddha laying down at the entrance is quite spectacular. Some amazing architecture and a lovely walk through the grounds looking at the statues.

Beautiful grounds, statues surround the entire complex, lots of ancient artifacts. We went as part of OAT group, and went into the general meeting room to talk to a monk and novice about their lives. Very informative, they also showed us how monks dress and the differences. Learned a lot, but also enjoyed just walking around taking it all in.
