Lovely rustic restaurant with a big welcome. The enthusiasm of the lady running it is great. She was mending a fan on our arrival and the other member of staff was not able to take our drinks order so a short wait for service.
We shared Laos sausage with salad to start and were shown how to eat it Laos style. The menu is extensive so we were happy to be guided towards barbecue pork with rice and a papaya salad. Food came quickly and again advice on eating Laos style was provided. With a G&T two glasses of wine and a large beer the bill was a reasonable 261,000 kip.

We actually found this place by mistake as we were looking for Phakhao Lao which is just around the corner , glad we did as this was just an amazing experience. The lady who ran this place told us on arrival that she was the only person there that night ( being a sunday ) and would have to cook each table one at a time. How refreshing to be so honest and we knew we were in for a 45 minute wait but it didnt spoil the occasion. The food was amazing, Dry red curry , noodles with chicken , lemon grass chicken and rice. all fresh and flavorsome. Quite how she coped was amazing and really knows how to cook, food here is more Thai influenced and that was to our liking. We cant recommend this restaurant enough , don't be put off by the slightly scruffy surroundings , the place is amazing !

It can be hard to find Lao food in Vientiane. Unless you go to the night market food stalls. But found this nice restaurant. A bit expensive, though. 50000 kip for a normal meal plus drinks. However, the food was nice.

My family and I wanted a typical local Lao meal and experience for dinner on our last evening in Vientiane and, after walking around the Fountain area of Vientiane for 20-30 minutes, we came across this little restaurant tucked down the side street of a side street. The restaurant didn't look too much from the outside but what persuaded us to go in was that it (i) it was quite busy (always a good sign) and (ii) the smell of food of delicious.

It turned out that the owner, Vilaylac, was the only staff member there. She did everything - take the orders, serve the drinks, cook the food, take payment and, no doubt, did the washing up. Despite all that, she still found time to talk with us!

The 4 of us shared a couple of starters, including a local speciality of Dried Mekong River Weed and had individual main courses. We all thought the food excellent.

So, as per my title, a little gem of a restaurant that exceeded our expectations. And when the bill arrived, even that was better than our expectations. All in all, an excellent final evening in Vientiance.

Just coincidently stepped in Ban Vilaylac restaurant and had a delicious lunch. The dishes are prepared from scratch from the moment you order, which obviously can take some time. I got Lao chili and lemongrass shrimps and the flavors and degree of cooking we’re just so right. The place itself invites to chill and enjoy this authentic moment. I realized how lucky I was after I kept going and noticed all the touristic spots in the surrounding...
