visited here because I'm a buddism . went to this temple just gave me peace in mind just praying for positive thing for my life and my family my friends
It is well worth a walk out to te Buddha and a climb up the stairs to see the city skyline. Lots of people trying to sell you stuff but if you say no they quickly disburse. A good half day visit there
More recent addition to the " Buddas" than I thought although still a lovely place to visit for the calm air despite lots of tourists
Dissapointed when 2 girls catch us upon arrival and introduced themselves as not guides but as orphan growing up in that Pagoda and they were willing to guide us free of charge. After all they requested from us 600.000 dong for help of the orphans. When we said ok we eill leave the money we want in the donation box they got agree with us and this behaviour really dissapointed us. Furthermore we saw a sign of nazism outside the pagoda, but the girls told us that is has nothing to do with nazism.
Whilst there was no entrance fee as soon as we walked in we were approached by a young woman claiming to be a student and offering herself as a guide. We politely declined and continued up to the reclining Buddha on the first level where another 'student' this time a young man gave us incense sticks to place near the Buddha and then asked us for a donation of 200,000 Dong (US$10) for some poor quality postcards that had nothing to do with the Long Son Pagoda. We gave him something less but I am sure he pocketed it continued up to the next level where the giant white Buddha was - it was nothing special and there were some beggars there. We then went back to the ground level where the temple was and there were many people there for a Buddhist ceremony and it was quite interesting, especially the chanting of the congregation.
