We got charged 280k for a 1.2km journey taking 10 minutes at 11am. It was hard to argue it when we have a little one in the car.
Needless to say we are back to using Grab where the price is set before the ride...or no surprises!
Nothing more irritating...!
Dear Vinasun,
Please be aware there are scammers out there pretending to be you or they could be your workers using your Vinasun card to cheat travellers. They robbed me of RM500.
So I reached HCM airport and was approached by this man who showed me his Vinasun card. He led into a darker parking spot area and asked to sit in a car that did not look like a Vinasun cab and had no meter. When I showed him my hotel, he just showed me the money I need to pay in his mobile phone calculator. I was naive to think he knew well enough to calculate. Red alert.
Then he passed me to another driver, as he claimed to be the manager. This second driver transferred my luggage into his car (didnt look like a Vinasun car and had no meter). The first driver informed him of the money to charge me.
He pretended to drive out but as we were about to exit, he said he needed small change. I showed him my Dong and he said my notes were too big and if I had USD. I told him I only have MYR. So he pestered me to show him the money. Red alert.
I took my MYR out and he snatched it from my hand and looked through the whole stack. Then he asked me to see how much was the exchange rate in my phone. When I looked, thats when he took RM500 but showed me he only took RM1 before passing me the whole stack. It was a dark parking area.
Then he said he didnt have enough Dong to pay me back. So he passed me again to the third driver and exchanged luggage again. I only realised I was robbed when I came back to the hotel.
There were red alerts everywhere. But I was traveling solo and desperately wanted to go back to the hotel. I also trusted their smiling faces and friendly approach. Seasoned conmen. Be careful. And they are everywhere.
Note of precaution:
1. Do not be deceived by their smiling faces. They asked me if it was my first time in HCM, which I said yes.
2. Take a Vinasun cab that looks like the picture, a company car.
3. Make sure there is a meter running inside. Even then I read there were malfunctioning meters.
4. Sorry, I lost all confidence on taxis in Vietnam. The reputation of taxis are so bad here. I will not ever take a taxi again but take uber or grab.
Generally be careful when taking out your money. Its nice to travel in a country where your money is big. But bear in mind there are watchful eyes looking at you taking that money out.
Had a very bad experience with vinasun taxi during out Vietnam trip. There are some robbers riding the taxi. The driver snatched a stack of money from my purse upon arrival at our destination, pretending as if he was finding smaller change for the taxi ride. Fortunately we realised some money are missing after we get out from the taxi, and after confronted him, we found our money consisting of some 500,000vnd and MY ringgits inside a box near to the driver seat.
Just be careful while paying for the taxi ride. Or choose alternative ie. Grab car services.
Always use Vinasun on all our visits to Vietnam. The drivers know where they are going and never had a problem.
I took a Vinasun Taxi on day 1 Last Friday 14 of June from Vincom Centre to Bui Vien Street. When I reach destination, the driver say 30,000 dong , I say isn't it 60K dong shown in the Meter. He says 30k. I passed to him 500K dong to change, he passed to me seems like 50K dong change. I feel in my heart in obviously wrong change. He should have give me back 470k dong back or 440K dong in return . I was also at fault as i was in a hurry to meet my friend at Bui Vien Street. My friends advised me after tht incident is to take Grab Cab from now on and also make sure you have a small change with you, in case the drivers do not have change for you. I had lot trust in Vinasun Tai, my remaining trip all I took Grab Cars , and then on my Journey In Ho chi Mn was safe.
Vinasun is known as a reliable, honest taxi company. It is best when in Vietnam to use the recommended taxi companies so as to avoid overcharges and taxi drivers taking you for a ride-literally.
