Interesting to learn about the 54 ethnic minority. It would s a lot to see so unless you are really interested in history and culture, it is a lot of the same things

Part of a Gate 1 tour, this was a good museum. There are two major sections….Outside there is a winding trail that wends through various housing styles associated with the many tribes in Vietnam. The houses are actual constructions from tribes people in those villages. Inside there are exhibits on clothing and various other articles of life associated with the tribes. There are bathrooms but they’re not the cleanest. Two cafes outside can provide sustenance if needed. The overall experience is educational and the various building constructions are fun to climb in to/out of. Recommended

Had no idea that Vietnam has so many ethnic minorities, tribal people who live mostly in the Central and Northern Highlands. Many of these cultures are highlighted with detailed displays. Great prelude to a visit to the Highlands and a home stay. This museum has both indoor and outdoor displays, and an excellent cafe and gift shop.

My wife & I (54 & 53) recently went to Vietnam with Mercury travel. This was an escorted tour travelling from South to North. In Hanoi we went to the Museum of Ethnology....Sounds boring and highbrow doesn't it? but it was interesting and fun. I particularly enjoyed the variety of traditional buildings, clambering the ladders to get inside etc. (I should know better at my age). Look out for the carved fertility statues, made me laugh like a school kid and got me told off by my wife for being childish. Plenty of things to see inside too including the wide variety of ethnical groups that makes up Vietnam. Can't tell you how expensive it was as entry was included in the tour. Surprisingly enjoyable.

I grew up in Vietnam so I have been to numerous museums throughout the years, but this is by far the best in several aspects. Incredibly detailed and informative, beautiful photos and exhibit, sleek architectural design, complete with a large outdoor area offering real models of houses from various ethnic group.

It’s educational but never boring, thanks to the variety of displays: from pictures and artefacts like clothing/tools, to videos and infographics. You should definitely spend at least half a day here to soak it all in and appreciate the cultural diversity within Vietnam. Thanks to the detailed signs accompanying all displays (in Vietnamese, English, and French), you don’t particularly need a tour guide for this visit.

Aside from the extensive exhibit on the ethnic minorities of Vietnam, there is also a large area dedicated to showcasing South East Asian culture and indigenous cultures from across the globe. The parallels in cultural evolution was utterly fascinating.

The museum is a little out of the way from the regular tourist hotspots, but the Grab fare is only around 65k and the admission fee is 100k per adult. If you only visit one museum in Vietnam, please make it this one.
