We stayed here twice during our tour of Vietnam; the first time we were given a beautiful room although were somewhat confused by the electrical set-up! The kettle supplied for the complimentary coffee had an Asian plug, but the sockets into which the lamps were plugged were European 3-pin sockets! We eventually found a bank of sockets behind the curtain to plug the kettle into, but then had to work out how to switch off the lights which were on a remote switch adjacent to the bed. Not a problem once we'd worked it out, but instrucitons would have helped! The breakfasts were wonderful with ample choice for all tastes - the freshly cooked omlettes were huge, but diners need to note that the sausages are chicken sausages and the bacon is beef bacon and both taste very different to those UK palettes are used to. On our second stay the room were were given on the 4th floor was damp and smelled of mildew, and the safe wouldn't work. When I reported the problem at Reception the lovely Henry (manager) immediatley came & opened the safe for us to retrieve our valuables and then moved us to a clean, sweet-smeling room on the 6th floor with no hesitation, so no compalints there. Do not be put off by the street where the hotel is located being very run-down in appearance as the hotel itself is beautiful. We were easily able to walk to the Opera House, the Old Quarter & the Lake with no trouble - but crossing the road IS a nightmare as nobody takes any notice of road signs or traffic lights! Keep your eyes peeled and develop nerves of steel & you'll be fine. The bar is a lovely place to relax and they have Happy Hour with 2 drinks for the price of 1 in the early evening. If you fancy a snack, turn left out of the hotel & walk to the corner, then turn right & there's a lovely little bakery selling cakes, sandwiches, rolls etc.
