Good hotel great staff

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Apr 2019
I stayed here for four nights, the hotel is nestled right in the middle of the old quarter so as soon as you walk out of the door you are right into the hustle and bustle of the day to day activities of the markets and street restaurants which abound in this area
Whilst the hotel is a budget hotel the rooms were clean and comfortable and surprisingly quite considering where we were.
but the real winner for me were the staff, everyone from the porters to the reception and management were fantastic will stay here again.

The staff were great, getting in touch when we booked asking if we would like them to arrange a transfer from airport/train station and for a price lower than we would have negotiated using a local taxi.
The staff at the front desk were always friendly & helpful and I'm sure if we had any problems they would have done their best to help. Helen was especially hard working & professional :)
The location is great, the Citadel within walking distance and lots of bars and restaurants very close by but not so much noise that you can't sleep.
The hotel itself is a little dated, which includes the bathroom but it was perfectly adequate.
Staff had great tips and recommendations on what sites to visit and a tour package can be booked through the hotel as well

Older but clean hotel, friendly and helpful staff, nice lobby and breakfast area. They provided juice on arrival during check-in. Good free breakfast (6:30-10am) with choice of main dish (several egg dishes, french toast, rice / noodle, etc), fruit, juice, and coffee, so easy to have full breakfast. Hotel offers travel tours, laundry, money changing, etc.

Excellent location in bustling Old Quarter area, surrounded by markets, shops, and restaurants. About 10-15 minute walk south from Long Bien bus stop where we exited Route 86 bus from Airport (35k d each way, every 20 minutes, easy and excellent orange bus transport to / from airport).

Our standard double was average size, queen bed with decent mattress and comforter, large bathroom, hot water in shower (bath tub) and sink, A/C vent was a bit noisy, cable tv with international channels, elevator, good wifi, soap / shampoo / toothbrush / cotton buds, small portable closet, refrigerator, very small safe that computer won’t fit in, chair, 2 night tables and desk, coffee pot, 2 complimentary small water bottles per day, refreshments in fridge for purchase, daily room service with towel change.

Our room window blocked by adjacent building, so never receives natural light. Room was very damp with poor ventilation, with stale and almost musty air. Sheets and pillow case were damp when we arrived, and all of our clothes were damp when we left. Best to run A/C cool all of the time to help freshen air. As this was our most expensive accommodation during 3 week Vietnam visit, the very damp room was unpleasant and disappointing.

Average wall soundproofing so we heard occasional hotel noise, but our interior room could not hear traffic noise and barely heard nearby night bar music. Helpful staff quickly replaced TV that died on our first night, and allowed us use of lobby and WC after check-out while waiting for red eye flight.

We visited at end of rainy season, but damp room was major negative. Otherwise this hotel was good for our 3 day stay as we visited several sights around Old Quarter. Recommend against getting standard double with “blocked” window, especially during wet season, and we would look elsewhere for our next Hanoi visit.

Room tip: Avoid rooms with blocked windows

My first trip to Vietnam was well organized by Holiday Hanoi Diamond Hotel. Halong Bay tour was utterly mesmerizing. Alas, I could only spend 3 days in Vietnam....

Alice helped and advised me through the entire tour and even before my hotel booking. I did not feel that I was in an unknown country :)
They arranged airport cab pick-up and drop even though it was quite late at night.
For pick-up, even the driver had to wait for more than an hour or so, as my on arrival VISA processing took a long time. Thanking hotel for that.
Awesome complimentary breakfast and I loved Vietnamese food..:)

Will be back to Vietnam soon for at least a week trip....

Hanoi is one of the bustling city of Vietnam where footprints of the old centuries still live on. The Hotel that we stayed in is 30 minutes from the airport. Which cost us 500k VND.

Upon arrival to the hotel, we where greeted by a nice bellman where our luggage has
been carried directly for check in and were surprised that he gave us a welcome drink(Lime juice), which I didn’t expect to these hotel. Check in was done within 5 minutes, receptionist walk us through the room followed by an orientation.

Hotel is only few minutes walk from Hoa Kiem Lake, where you can find the old quarters and weekend markets. Upon waking up the next day we went down for breakfast, which offers you a selection from eggs to noodles to pancakes and crepes with selection of fresh squeeze juice and a exotic fruit platter freshly made that we suit everyone palate.

Upon Checking out they even offer us a taxi to the airport which much more cheaper from airport to hotel by 30%.
Thus saying if I’ll return back to Hanoi, I’ll definitely go back to this hotel as staff is just so friendly and accommodating and the Hotel is just exceptional to tourists that shines like a True Diamond.

This hotel is right in the middle of the "Old Quarter" action if that is where you want to be. Shops, bars, restaurants and chaos are just outside the door in all directions!
That said, we heard no traffic noise in our room (504). The included breakfast is simple but nice and the WiFi works well in the lobby and in our room. The staff were nice enough to arrange an early check in at 9 am due to an early train arrival. The AC unit in the room is quiet and produced enough heat. The shower is a bit weak, but adequate and clean. Laundry service (same day) is available for $2/Kg. There is a "travel service" desk in the hotel but not sure what they provide. We arranged everything via the internet. Overall, a good value. See notes below.

NOTES:
1. DO NOT LET TAXIs RIP YOU OFF! If you are arriving to Hanoi by bus or train and need a taxi, it's best to load the "GRAB" app onto your phone to get rides. Or have the hotel secure a ride for you. GRAB is a ride service like UBER and has the great benefit of letting you see and agree to the price before riding! Taxis will RIP YOU OFF in Hanoi. They may look official and have a meter, but watch the meter it may "jump up" periodically! We had this happen 3 different times! What we now know should have cost 23,000 dong (1 US dollar) cost 200,000 dong ($8). When we used GRAB or had the hotel arrange a taxi, the meter behaved normally and we paid $1 to $1.50 for a ride from the train station to the Old Quarter or from our Old Quarter hotel to the Military Museum etc. A 10 minute ride should only be 23,000 dong ($1).

2. Watch out for pickpockets outside the train station! We had a phone stolen right outside the train station by an older man who jumped on a bike and rode off with it!

3. Negotiate prices in the clothing shops. There are great prices to be had on "North Face" and "Under Armor" clothing and jackets etc, but negotiate! The same goes for gifts in the shops and from street vendors.

4. The Ho Chi Minh memorial and Hanoi Military Museums are only a 20 min walk away from this hotel and both highly recommended. Hoam Kiem lake is 15 min walk away and worth a look.

Would stay here again when cheap digs were needed in the middle of the action.

Room tip: Higher floor toward the back are quieter (away from the street)
