“Overated - 34 Phan Dinh Phung”
Reviewed 28 April 2013

Although being adept of the 18 Phan Boi Chau, we have tried the new location at Phan Dinh Phung and experimented a totally different athmosphere, quality of dishes and pricing. The new concept has no appeal except that they have renovated a former colonial house near the citadel. Prefer the original for genuine experience !

Dear XDP1977,

First of all, we're really sorry for what you experienced in 34 Phan Dinh Phung. There’s slightly difference between our dishes in 18 Phan Boi Chau and 34 Phan Dinh Phung. In 18 Phan Boi Chau, the dishes taste a little bit more strong and sweet but in 34 Phan Dinh Phung, we want to bring the authentic taste of Hanoi people so the dishes are lighter and not as sweet as the one in Phan Boi Chau. It may be the reason that you don't like dishes in 34 Phan Dinh phung as much as the one in 18 Phan Boi Chau.

However, we really appreciate your feedback and comment, we will try our best to improve the service quality of Quan An Ngon in the near future. We are having special offers for Seafood dishes as our gifts to customers this summers so we hop you can spend time on visiting and trying our tasty food again.

Thanks and Kindest Regards,

Quan An Ngon.

“Much rave for average food”
Reviewed 27 April 2013

We've heard a lot about this place and decided to go for lunch. The place is nice, very very big and busy. The idea of having vietnamese food from everywhere is nice, but we had much better meals in other places in Hanoi (especially street vendors). The food was very average and the beer hot. I ordered a cha ca - fish -, pancakes and my husband noodles with beef and all of the meals were average. Also, service is slow and confuse. Good thing is it's not expensive, but we really didn't understand all the rave about this place. There are better places in Hanoi.

“Great Concept but Average Food”
Reviewed 27 April 2013

A fellow traveler we met was raving about this place, so we decided to give it a try on our last night in Hanoi. The concept is interesting - you get many different stalls all at one place, each serving different types of dishes. Atmosphere is vibrant, and they serve a huge variety of Vietnamese dishes. It's great for people who would like to try 'Vietnamese street food' in a cleaner setting.

We ordered a couple of dishes - fried spring rolls, Vietnamese pancake, tamarind crab, and some dessert. After hearing so much about how good the food here is, we were a little disappointed when the dishes arrived. I thought the food was just average. The spring rolls and Vietnamese pancake (which were recommended by the servers) felt like they have been sitting around for awhile before it was served to us. It tasted okay though. The service was also okay, though we did have some trouble getting the attention of the servers.

I wouldn't come back here soley for the food, but considering the interesting concept and the variety offered, I may just give it another chance to prove its worth :)

“Old Quarter location much better than new location”
Reviewed 26 April 2013

This small chain has a few locations and the best one is the one in the Old Quarter which is always busy and bustling with life which creates a great atmoshpere. The food here is FRESH FRESH FRESH and the menu is very wide catering to all tastebuds. The food is delicious though somewhat pricey for Vietnam but it clearly caters to tourists. Everything here is very clean, which is a bonus as most places in Vietnam don't care about hygene. Service is fast and attentive. DO go here for an overall nice experience.

“THE PLACE to dine on the best of Vietnamese cuisine”
Reviewed 26 April 2013

If you only have one place you can go to try as much variety of Vietnamese cuisine, this is THE PLACE to go.

Caters to (Western) tourists, but this is one of the best places you can go for authentic regional Vietnamese cuisine. They have a few locations in both HCMC and Hanoi, but both over a range of Vietnamese cuisine that spans the entire country. The dinner I had there was excellent and at an affordable price. The staff was very friendly and attentive - what you expect for service in Vietnam.

All the dishes are good, but I highly recommend the Hanoi-style fish. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned AMAZINGLY. I didn't realize there was dill in Vietnamese cooking, but this dish opened my eyes to how amazing it adds to the wonderful flavor of the fish (just steer away from the dipping sauce if your palette isn't used to it).
