This is been rated as one of the seven natural wonders of the world and you will clearly be mesmerised once you get into the sea and see these beautiful limestone caves. Suggest going for atleast a 3 day itinerary including the CatBa islands.

a half day cruise was included in the Gate 1 tour we were on so we got on our boat and headed out of the harbor. The harbor was almost as bad as the scooter-filled streets of every big city in Vietnam…..everyone trying to get to the same place as fast as possible. If there were a poster child for over-development, this might be it. It is a Unesco World Heritage site but that’s not stopping anyone from trying to grab as many tourist bucks as possible. Once out of the harbor the boats thinned out a little but there was no mistaking the reality that there were 50 – 100 boats trying to do the same thing as you. Once we got out into the islands there was enough separation that you could almost believe you were out there alone. The views are beautiful, with ~2000 islets formed from eroding limestone. This area is a commercial traffic zone as well as fishery for locals. We cruised in and out of the islets, stopping about 2 hours in to visit the largest cave in the area (Sung Sot Cave, see my other review). It was an enjoyable boat ride and, really, it’s the reason you come to the area. Better go soon because they are going to turn the land portion into another Myrtle Beach at the rate they’re going. Recommended

We had a wonderful time in Halong. Lots of nature to explore and other type of activities. I would recommend to stay at least one night on Catba.

Two nights on the Red Dragon Halong Bay. Definitely recommend Indochine Junk, Mr T, Cia & crew are brilliant. Mr T very knowledgable & funny. Great kayaking around the islands, swimming. BBQ on the beach. Food absolutely fabulous.
