the Soi Dog Foundation rescues and treats the street dogs and cats of Phuket. They have recently expanded into Bangkok, and are very active in rescuing dogs from the extremely cruel and unnecessary dog meat trade. The tour, which is free, runs a few days a week at specified times, and lasts for around an hour. The extremely dedicated volunteers give you a run down on the history of the foundation, and then take you on a tour of the kennels and hospital. There is a facility where volunteer vets sterilise the street dogs, they are then returned to the streets, this minimises the number of street dogs and has eliminated rabies. There is also an area for the dogs who have been rescued from the meat trade and are awaiting adoption, which is all coordinated by the Foundation. Cat lovers will be enthralled by the cat rooms, where you can sit and be surrounded by a multitude of adoring cats. At the end of the tour you can play with a few of the dogs. This is well worth the visit, and please remember to leave a donation at the end, the money is put to very good use.
