Wonderful island. Great food and snorkelling. Clean beach and great sea. What more can you say? Went to both sides of the island one for the beach and the other to snorkel off the boat. Highly recommend a visit, especially for travel with children

In this post I will review items to bring, how to get their and finally the beaches we visited.

We packed a backpack with towels, water, sunscreen, extra chargers for our phones and about 1000 baht. We took a taxi to the pier from our hotel for 200 baht.

Then my wife and I took the ferry from Pattaya Dock for 30 baht per person. The ride was about 40 mins long and pretty was simple and safe despite the look of the ferry.

Once you depart the ferry at the Koh Larn island dock follow the crowd of people towards the town. There you will be met by a multiple people renting motor scooters (300 baht all day). If you don’t want to rent a scooter once you leave the main pier area hang a left and walk down the street to the truck taxis. All the taxis will have a map of the island and their prices posted (per person). At the town prior to getting in the taxi we bought a beach blanket/pad for 200 baht to lay our beach towels on.

We first went to Tien Beach. When you first get there it looks run down and the water is overly crowded with speed boats. Every 30 mins a new charter boat would pull up and off load 30 new tourists and up load 30 that were dropped off about an hour before. The water was warm and the sand was nice. This beach has trees/shrub trees that you can camp out underneath for shade. The beers are cheap 60 baht for a large Chang. The detractors of this beach are the number of dogs running around, speed boats everywhere and people constantly walking up trying to sell you something (but that is to be expected and the sellers are polite and listen when you say no thank you). Finally, while at Tien beach 5 people stepped it were stung by something in the water and had to receive some type of aid. Aid being people putting limes or posting vinegar on the wounds.

We then walked to Samae beach, which is only 400m away from Tien. We found Samea beach to be nicer than Tien beach with appearance and number of speed boats. This beach looked cleaner, more organized with where boats pulled up and no random dogs running around. Beach was beautiful and water was nice and calm (temp was the same as Tien beach). We did not observe anyone being stung at this beach.

Final beach was Monkey beach or Nual beach. I would say this beach is similar to Samea but smaller. We only spent a short amount of time here as we wanted to make the 4pm ferry back to Pattaya.

Overall we enjoyed our trip to Koh Lan. I wills rank the beaches with Samea first followed by Nual and finally Tien of the beaches we visited. Final two thoughts: prices are reasonable on the island and the street food is actually pretty good.

I have posted a few pictures to help illustrate.

The island has crystal clear water with beautiful photo taking points..it is accessible from bali hai pier at the end of walking street..the boat takes 30 min from the pier to either twaen beach or na ban pier for 30 baht...i prefer twaen pier because it has itself very clear water..tourists no need to go any other beach for activities amd snorkeling..

Pattaya beach is a letdown as the water is not clear and the beach being narrow and dirty, but once you reach Koh Larn Island ( Coral Island), it is a different story. Fantastic blue and tarquoise water, pristine beach and dense green tropical forested mountain. An ideal day spend here. Hire a motor cycle and explore the Island. Rent an easy chair and laze on any of the beach, swim, gorge on the enticing barbequed sea food on the beach stalls.....your choices are many. Must visit.
