Lamai beach, 4kms north of our Resort was where we spent most of our afternoons lazing around, enjoying the serene beach.
Lamai Beach is Samui's Second largest resort area after Chaweng. It is quieter and less bustling than the buzzing Chaweng, but still with plenty of accommodation, dining and shopping options to be found, and some great spas and tourist sites to explore. I especially liked the fact that the establishments were not too modern and commercialized because that IMO preserved the "island" atmosphere in this area.

Went to Lamai in June/July 2009 .
Stayed at the samui sense ,right on the beach, it had every thing to offer & more ,really nice swimming pool, bar facing out on to the beautiful beach. Brilliant for happy hour ,watching those sun sets ! ! Just a short walk too the main street where all the action was. Some fab bars right on the beach too !
Very clean ,Kind & helpful staff ,nothing was too much trouble .
We hired a motor bike & went all around the island .
Sun ,Sea & Sand ,what more could we have asked for !

I stayed in Lamai for 3 days back in Aug '08 and totally loved it. Stayed at the Seabreeze Place resort along the main road, and from our hotel, one can just walk up and down the streets and experience a true island vacation in Thailand. Lamai's vibrant and festive. Enough to keep any traveler occupied for days and even weeks. I especially liked the fact that the establishments were not too modern and commercialized because that, I think, preserved the "island" atmosphere in this area as opposed to Chaweng being like Bangkok by the beach. Will definitely pick Lamai again on my next visit to Samui!

So far my favorate place in Thailand (as a whole Island)........sand,sea and sun.
This town is busy most of the day and night..... super resturants, good nightlife (the sex industry is here but not as prolific as some areas). Good shopping (although Chaweng is better). Chaweng is about 15 minutes drive away and all form of transport there is cheap........if anyone wants a rough idea of costs then send me a message.......There are lots of travel agents here so booking a trip is no problem and cheap or try renting a car (about £20 a day) or bike (about £3 a day). You can get better deals though if you book a few days at a time.
The beach here is never busy and is better than at Chaweng and the main watersport here of Jet skiing is cheap.
A few places to visit from here are The Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo,bungy jumping at Chaweng, Chaweng beach, a day or two to Koh Pha Ngan (this is also where the famous Full Moon Parties are held), ATV tours,The mummified monk and much more...........for more to do see my review on Chaweng beach
also my reviews on Chaba Samui resort and Laguna resort in Lamai
