I think basically the hotel is what the hotel is, an idyllic but expensive and isolated resort. It's the way in which people deal with this that varies. I suspect many people, like ourselves, come on Hilton miles and hence are more cost conscious, if you can afford to pay for a room, you probably won't baulk at the cost of the rest of the things. If you are on a budget you can keep costs down by going to the Elements Spa for massages, shopping for snacks and booze at the mini mart and eating outside at the Green Ta'lay (which I found a bit disappointing given the Tripadvisor hype especially the building site location). There is also a massage place next to the mini mart where you can get a Thai Massage for $10. I just wish the resort didn't have the world's steepest hill to get in otherwise it would have been a stroll to the outside world rather than a $12 taxi ride.

If you can put the money and the isolation behind you, enjoy the beautiful villas each with their own infinity pools and enjoy great food in the Jahn and Zest restaurants (western big city prices). All the rooms have very comfortable beds, great bathrooms, quiet air conditioning and modern in-room entertainment (including an iPad to borrow). Transport around the resort is via buggy which in general is very reliable and there is a good hotel taxi service albeit a bit more pricey than the local offerings (but not much Mr Samui charges $9 less for the long airport transfer). Breakfast is served in the Zest restaurant or in your room for a supplement ($11 person for Gold members who get breakfast free).

As you would expect in Thailand, the staff are very friendly, service is in general very good but there are probably too many hiccups still for a really top notch resort. What pleased me was that they joined things up and knew your plans for the days so they adjusted buggies etc accordingly.

All in all a wonderful resort and definitely the best place we have we stayed.

Room Tip: Rooms in the 200's or 300's have views and accessibility via walking to Zest. If you want t...

We stayed 5 nights in December with my 2 yrs old daughter. Our flight was delayed 2 hrs but there was no problem with the pick up. The driver was waiting for us at the waiting area and it took 45 min to arrive at the hotel. Then we jumped on the buggy to go to the villa at the first row(room 112).
The next day we had a bad weather so we didn't see much around the resort but we enjoyed the time in the library and our daughter spent time at the turtle club with their staff for few hours. There is also baby sitter service available if you need one privately and can arrange that through the hotel front desk. The baby crib is great and swimming pool at the villa is just enough for a family to enjoy the afternoon.
The benefit of staying in the first row is that you can actually walk to Azure( the pool bar and restaurant) the main pool, the kids club and the jetty. Since we have a baby with us I think it was great for us to stay near all those facilities. Some people might say the view isn't as great as the 2nd or 3 rd rows but we didn't have a problem with the view coz it was still stunning looking towards 5 islands!!
We enjoyed the breakfast everyday we were there especially the fresh coconut! Beautiful view at Zest every morning. Staff were brilliant!!
We weren't quick enough to book ourselves a massage package that was on deal that time but we had a look around the spa and it was fantastic view and setting!! I wish I could have one!
We rent a car( delivered at the hotel) on the 3rd day so we could drive to chaweng and lamai for lunch and dinner and sight seeing which I think was a good break from spending all day at the resort( it wasn't that boring at the resort don't get me wrong!)
We had a dinner at Jhan one night, my husband found it was too fusion...I would har thought a proper Thai cuisine would give a lot more touch to the guests( especially foreigners) Then we had lunch at Azure and it was great!! So if you dine in Azure and Zest, kiddie menu is complimentary inc the kiddie drink so that was brilliant!!
People have said a lot about the stunning view and it is all true!! All in all, it was a fantastic holiday for us thanks to all staffs that made out day! :)

First , th pick up from the airport was half hour late, I have no idea what to o with my family of five, an they charge US$100 per trip to the hotel.
Second, the house keeping was not doing a good job in cleaning of the room.
Third, the dining at the restaurant Jahn , they charge very expensive , the food was good until the main course. Have to wait 45 minutes for th in course and comes out only warm bu not hot. Only room temperature .
Fourth, too far from the town , takes one hour to town and ne hour back , and even offer no fee suttle . The hotel charge US$100/ trip us$200/ return. You can call local taxi only half the price.
Fifth , electric power was down everyday, when power run down , you have nothing, no air condition , no telephone, no wifi, that means you can't get any help.
Sixth, the worst part was we check out. We book the hotel car at 2:45pm , the electric peer was down again at 1:45 , we have no telephone to call the services center, so I walk outside my villa to look for buggy, three hotel people pass by and said will call buggy fr me it was 2:15pm, and nobody shows up, until 2:45pm I have to walk out my villa and shout for help, help ,help , can you expect to pay US$2500/day to shout for help ! Finally a bugg with new customer pass by and offer me help. When we check ut , the manager cancel my spy charges as return.

I will never never return to Conrad Koh samui again . NEVER

To put this review into context, we pretty much always stay in 5* or boutique hotels.

The Conrad Koh Samui comes pretty close to perfection. Our room (223) was basically a huge private villa with it's own, good sized, infinity pool. The room was furnished & designed to a very high standard. The sunsets are amazing. We found it hard to leave our room!

If you want a 'get away from it all' in true luxury then this is your place.

We stayed 5 nights at the Conrad over Christmas and we liked it a lot. The hotel is built on a cliff with stunning views from every villa. We could sit hours looking at the ocean, watching the sunset or watching a thunderstorm unfolt.

The villas are beautiful with a big terrace, practical swimming pool (more than just a plunge pool) and a very spacious bathroom. There is a (complicated) audio/video system based on Apple TV. We had to call several times before we really understood how to operate it. I would recommend the hotel to put a manual in the room. Once you understand how it works, it is great with lots of option, a good choice of on demand movies and excellent sound quality through the Bose loudspeakers.

Every day, we spent a few hours in the gym. The gym is wonderful and mainly the suites upstairs are great with Ocean view, Jacuzzi and steambath. Worth the money. We experienced some therapists as being much better than others. And after 2 days, we choose the therapists we wanted.

Restaurants are great with some excellent food, served in Zest and in Jahn (the 2 restaurants we tried). Breakfast is great with an "special eggs menu" and a wide choice of fresh juices. Excellent. Having breakfast outside on the terrace, overlooking the Ocean is a real treat. Jahn serves modern Thai food which we also enjoyed very much. Of course, all this comes at a price and this is what you should expect in a topclass 5 star resort as this one.

The resort is very isolated and you need to drive or take a boat for quite a while in order to get to the nearest city. It did not disturb us and we did not leave the resort, except with the boat to the beach. The resort does not have a beach, though 3 times a day a speedboat brings you to a deserted, very nice beach in 15 minutes (sea can be rough). Water and towels are provided by the hotel at this beach. All very nice !

The service in restaurants and bars have a few flaws, though nothing really disturbing. We found it sometimes very funny and it gave us some good laughs instead of being irritated. Keep it this way as it is much more natural than the perfectly trained personnel you find in some other top resorts.

Overall : strongly recommended and we wanted to stay much longer

Room Tip: We were in Villa 315 which was great !
