This place is nicely located at the west bank of the Ping River. The complex is stretched out along the river, giving each room direct access to the area or a view for the ones upstairs.

The rooms are appropriate for this price category. We had a very badly smelling drain in the lowest cat room that we booked in our first night and got upgrade without hesitation to a better room on the first floor for the remaining nights.

Staff is nice and helpful though language skills vary greatly. As the property is located 3 km from the city center the place offers an after breakfast shuttle at 11 am, which we used. Rides with Uber to the city are about 2 USD and easily available at any time.

The breakfast was not my fav but though acceptable with several options a la carte.

Would recommend for a short stay.

Minimal style building with pool access rooms. Good breakfast and careful service. Relaxing place out of the city centre. Hotel offers a free shuttle transfer to old town (one way only) each morning at 11.00am. By sure this a quality choice for your stay in Chiang Mai.

Zensala has a beautiful location but it is not central to anyplace. The rooms are slightly rundown and while on a river, the outside space is not very well maintained. Used dishes stayed on outside tables for several days and sprinklers went off at the very time we wanted to sit outside. We ordered an extra bed for our daughter and it was very uncomfortable/low quality. The people were nice but not as helpful as we wanted them to be. The internet service is sporadic. GPS gets confused on what side of the river this is on which can confuse UBER and GRAB Car drivers.

Room Tip: Make sure to clarify GPS when ordering car pick up.

Our stay at the Zensala was OK. After reading some great reviews online, we were a bit underwhelmed by the actual property. The rooms were a bit dated, but comfortable. We had booked a villa and after check-in were lead to a Deluxe Room. No one had even told us there were issues with the villas, until we got to our room. If you have a room on the first floor, there is a lot of noise from traffic on the street, as well as flights overhead. Nothing some extra soundproofing couldn't fix. The restaurant onsite was adequate, but the service was slow (and we were the only ones in the restaurant!). And for anyone else who doesn't like creepy crawlers - there were plenty of geckos to go around. Although not sure that can be avoided in Thailand, but just calling it out as I know I would have liked to have known this before booking this property.

All of that said, the staff were very accommodating and helped us with airport transfers as well as booking a local tour while in Chaing Mai. They also held our luggage for us for the day, which was helpful. Compared to some other hotels, there was a bit of a language barrier, but nothing we couldn't work around.

Not sure I would stay here again if in Chiang Mai, but it was a pleasant enough stay this go around.

Really nice hotel with lovely staff. The restaurant in the hotel is also quite good. We stayed in room 109 which was huge. The bathroom and rooms were well appointed. The swimming pool was small but nice. Only downside was that it is fairly far away from the old city and the night food markets, but that was made up by the attentive and very friendly staff.

Room Tip: 109 is large and has a nice balcony with a good view
