Chiang Mai zoo is large and with good enclosures for the animals. The zoo also contains the aquarium, although this is run by a different organisation and there is a separate entry fee. It is expensive to visit, as one continually has to pay - for entry, to ride the bus transport (essential, given the size of the zoo), to see the pandas, to buy food for the animals, and to enter the aquarium. I did not find the zoo particularly unique, with the selection of animals similar to many zoos around the world.

This time we visited the Panda's and the Snow Dome. The pandas were a little dissapointing. You have to pay extra so you expectations are high, but it were just two pandabears in a cage.
The Snow Dome was although good fun. Cold, -7 is is not big and not more than a big freezer but the whole idea is great.

The day started off well when we arrived and found that it was free to get in because it was a public holiday ( bad side of this - completely chaotic as so many people), the only thing to pay for was 100 baht each to see the panda and think there was a charge to visit the aquarium and the snow zone. After reading previous reviews, people were certainly right when they said it was very steep walking round - its on the side of a mountain and in 30+ degrees its hard going. We saw most of the zoo in about 4 or 5 hours so its ok for half a day and it would probably be a fun day out if you were taking kids because there are plenty of chances to buy food (only 10 - 20 bahts) to feed animals such as elephants and giraffes. Most of the animals looked fairly healthy and happy, only saw 1 or 2 pacing up and down the fence. Overall it was an ok day out, but probably wouldn't go back again.

Huge zoo, biggest in Thailand apparently.

When you get there you pay for an entrance fee. However what they don't tell you at the front is theres an additional 100bht fee for the monorail and bus service as its impossible to get around without using it because the zoo is massive. Pandas are also an additional 100bht. Adults can buy a combined entry fee for the zoo and aquarium for 520bht.

Lot of the animals are free roaming around their pens and you can feed giraffe, deer, elephants and even emu for 20bht a basket.

There is also a BB Gun range and mini ATV circuit just after Bus Stop No.5.

The bus system around the zoo works well, there are five stations next to major attractions and the bus will stop and pick you up anyway along the route if you have a ticket.

Good zoo, not a great one.

3 friends and myself visited this zoo recently and all of us enjoyed it! it had a wide range of animals and 'creatures' spread around large grounds made up of continental areas. the walk ways to see lots of the animals are great and you can really get up close to many of them. my cons are however; animals do not seem as they are treated the best and the penguin part was closed when we were there!
