Baan Chang Elephant Park is well worth a visit if you are in Chiang Mai. There are lots of other places offering elephant rides but don't do them! Most of the time the elephants are not looked after or treated properly where as with Baan Chang Elephant Park you can be assured they are being treated properly and being given the best care possible by the guides and Mahouts.

This is a first class sanctuary, you can fead the elephants and get to ride the elephants on their necks without the chairs which is more comfortable for them. It's one of those experiences you will never forget! We stayed there for a full day and stayed at the accomodation for the night in the park itself, and it's worth every penny, the food is good and the guides are very freindly and helpful. I would definately recommend visiting this park and i hope to return in the future!

My Husband and I went to the Baan Chang Elephant Park last august 2013. Its a WONDERFUL experiencie, MUST DO if youre going to be in Chang Mai area for a couple of days. Our guide Tom explained us the operation and managment of the park, also how the treat the elephants. He take his time to explain also the tools and how they use it with the animals. This was very important because there´s a lot misundertanding about it. You dedicate the morning to feed the gelephants and commands to treat them (get up an down, and walk commands) followed by a big lunch. The in the afternoon you take a ride with them telling the commands that showed you in the morning. But you dont have to worry, they never let you alone with the elephant. Finally you finish this wonderful journey bathing with the elephants. Clothes?? dont worry about that, they give you special clothes and provides you with showers. Again: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Great souvenir from Thailand

I had an incredible experience at the Baan Chang elephant park! Our guide for the day was named Pusa, and he was terrific! He did a great job of providing us with a good deal of background on where the elephants came from, how they are cared for, and the overall mission of the park. I came away from the experience not only having ridden and bathed and fed (WOW!) elephants, but also with a greater understanding of elephants and how they are properly cared for. Going into the experience, I was a bit apprehensive about the treatment of elephants in elephant parks, however Pusa did a great job addressing these qualms and explaining how the park takes extra care to make sure that the elephants are happy.

We had a truly amazing day at Baan Chang Elephant Park. Our guide, Woody, was helpful and friendly and during the morning the commands were clearly explained. We opted for one elephant per person which was great fun but if you opt for two people per elephant each person gets a shot of being at the front.

Attention to detail is evident - lovely lunch, free water all day, great hammocks to relax in and all areas where you sit down are in the shade. You also get some fetching outfits for the day too!

I've noticed a few reviews on here that mention mistreatment of the elephants. Anything but! They are treated fairly and with respect and having been we have every faith that these elephants are treated really well.

If you have a spare day in Chiang Mai we couldn't recommend this enough!

This was a fantastic tour. We booked a full day tour for two people, one elephant between us.

We were picked up at the agreed time from our hotel and transported in a clean and modern van with air-conditioning. Our guide gave us a quick briefing about the timeline of events on our way to the elephant park (a drive of about an hour).

When we arrived we were shown to changing rooms where we changed into their outfits (so as to not get our own clothes dirty). We then had a safety briefing and started to feed the elephants bananas and sugar cane.

We then learned some elephant riding commands and had a chance to try them out - a really great experience. We felt well informed and safe. The elephants appeared to be well cared for and the mahouts treated them well - many of the mahouts obviously cared deeply for their elephants.

We then had some lunch (which was very good) and proceeded to move on to the longer elephant ride. One person sat behind the neck and another sat on the back (all of the people on our tour went for the two to an elephant option). This was great fun and very exciting. The walk seemed to go for quite a while, then we walked the elephants down to a man-made lake / dam where we bathed them and some of the elephants even playfully shot water our of their trunks.

After showering and changing clothes we were taken back to our hotel. A very worthwhile and excellent day.
