If you would like to stay close to Khao San Road but you would like also to stay in a stylish and comfortable place, that is your hotel. Rooms are spacious and clean and the place is managed efficiently. Internet and breakfast are included. Perhaps the bathroom is the less attractive feature since it is easy to spill it all when taking a shower.

Room Tip: Highest floor, facing the swimming pool

We spent two nights at Lamphu. The rooms are basic by western standards (shower only/no tub), but if you want western style rooms you likely will book with larger hotel chains. We enjoy staying at smaller accomodations to allow for a more authentic experience. The room was clean with cold AC, the breakfast good, the location is within a 5 minute walk of Khao San Rd, but in a more residential neighborhood, so not too much traffic or late night noise. The staff was very friendly. The grounds were well kept. We would definitely stay there again. If you happen to be vegetarian, ask the front desk to direct you to May Kaidee restaraunt, good food and good prices.

Room Tip: book directly through the hotel website

From the moment you walk through the door you are made to feel at home. The staff are exceptional better then any 5 star resort I have stayed at and to be honest the staff really make this place. Fantastic pool to cool off and an awesome roof top terrace to watch the lights of Bangkok. The food at the resturant is also absolutely fantastic, best Tom Yum I've ever had. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We found the Lamphu Tree House so comfortable after our first stay that we returned twice in the next month - a great way to hop around Thailand using Bangkok as the base.

Hotel highlights:
- 5 min walk to Khao San road: experience backpacker madness and £5 massages without having to sleep among the dirt and noise of Khao San hostels
- great value, we paid £27-30 total per night for a spotless double room with ensuite
- banana pancakes for breakfast and club sandwiches at lunch are welcome breaks from green curry during lengthy Thai stays
- shady pool, leafy plants, natural wood decor and air con mean guaranteed refuge from the heat; plus internet access in the lobby
- friendly, helpful and flexible hotel staff who welcome you back each time

Tips:
- it's not that hard to find - either ask tuk-tuks to drop you at the Democracy Monument (3 mins walk away) or take the hotel business card from the front desk to show to taxis when you go out. If you just say 'Lamphu Tree' the taxi driver will often hear 'Rambuttri' which is a popular road just off the Khao San so written addresses are best
- want to do Siem Reap? Lamphu Tree can store baggage for a few days so you can travel to Cambodia with the minimum if you're coming back to Bangkok

I stayed here for one week in April 2011, while at a conference in the neighbourhood. This was actually my second visit, having stayed for two weeks back in 2009.

Overall, I have many good things to say about the hotel. The rooms, while not overly spacious, are comfortable and well maintained. There's a reasonably wide selection at breakfast, and dinner is fine if you're looking for something reliable and easy. (Admittedly, you're better off exploring the Thai street food scene or a local restaurant, but when you just want a quick and convenient meal, it's fine here.) Cleaning services are frequent, and the staff are friendly. Wifi is free, though reception is pretty weak up in the rooms.

My only real complaint relates to the other guests ... I was woken up one night by a drunk guy shouting in the hotel corridor, and sadly this sort of yobbish behaviour seems rather typical of the people who come to Thailand. Not the hotel's fault, obviously, but you'd be wise to pack a pair of earplugs.
