I love the service. Sauerkraut is super good. Walking into Bei Otto is like you were in Germany. Even the bread is excellent.

Straight opposite hotel where we were staying, so had to try. Looks are nice and it's definitely German. Just a pity selected beers were not available but let's call that unlucky. Shop next to it is nice and has got fresh foods. Quality of food was average and portions were a bit small, especially when considering the price. Overall relaxed and all ok.

Otto has gone and the new owners have maintained the hearty and filling German fare that was the hallmark of the menu under the old regime but there are now big problems with service which was formerly always efficient, polite and able to communicate in English. A number of front-of-house staff have no English skills. What is more worrying is the total lack of focus, anticipation and sloppy habits encountered on 3 or 4 visits in the last few months. Menus have to be requested, waitresses wander off mid-way through taking an incomplete order, mistakes pointed out are met with impolite verbal broadsides, failure of the staff to keep eye-contact with the result that customers have to get up from the table and seek out their attention. There is even one waitress who listens to music (or whatever) on her plugged-in headphones, all this in the middle of service. The service is crying out for management's firm grip and better training. The German cuisine is comfort food served in generous portions. The only blip on the food-side of things was a less than impressive cheese platter that had low quality processed cheeses some of which was pre-sliced & sweaty. They should source better.

As a German national I do what know what genuine German food is all about, - there aren't many good German restaurants in Bangkok , but with 2 German + 1 Swiss German restaurant all in Soi 20, you do have the opportunity to compare without going too far..

I have known this restaurant for over 20 years, and i have followed its ups and downs. Since the new owners took over, initially the menue, food quality, presentation and size of portions improved a lot, so I had been going there quite a lot lately.

Unfortunatly what has gone down is the service. Last night, dinner for 2 at the bar counter - the waitress dumps one menue in front of us without even a greeting. When I asked for a second menue she starts complaining in Thai to her colleagues.
The lady who run the bar ..a grumpy stoneface for the rest of the night and we were totally ignored ..the place wasn't even busy.

Reading the reviews ..the owners or the manager don't seem to be bothered ..not that i have seen a manager there for a while ...

Had the unpleasant experience of patronizing the restaurant's food store. Wherever kind of management there is allows these rude and useless employees in the shop to monkey around and abuse customers. Some of the worst service ever. Also bought some chocolate that was kept improperly and had melted in the store. Some of the goods are close to code expiration. It is a huge disappointment and waste of money to go there. The employees there seem to think that foreigners like rude service or the don't know any better. This is shameful. The treat customers as as if they are patronizing a girlie bar like down the street; rude and disrespectful. I only I tried to buy gummy bears for my 4 year old daughter.
