When Jim Thompson - Surawong was built in late 1960s, it was rather unique since it was the era when international tourists started to notice Thailand in grand scale. The place was a must shopping stop for every independent traveller to shop for ready-make Thai silk products with quality design. Nowadays there are numerous outlets having the same Thai silk products however Jim Thompson is still frozen in time. Does JT have better silk quality? Maybe but does it worth the price? Does JT have better design? It is up to your personal taste. For first time visitor, I would suggest a visit if you are in the area and decide for yourself. Good browsing and shopping.

This is a beautiful shop, which you could spend ages browsing. It’s also expensive so if you’re on a limited budget, then browsing is probably all you’ll do! We actually bought a couple of books, including the Jim Thompson Cookery book, which is a lovely souvenir of Thailand. But the wonderful, colourful silk fabrics were the stars! Hard to leave Thailand without some!
