“Service plus”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2012

I have stayed at this hotel several times on my travels and have found it to be consistently pleasant. The staff are always friendly and courteous - typically Thai! The service is impeccable and I would challenge anyone to find fault with the staff or service. Excellent memories and experience and will definitely be returning again and again.

Room Tip: I have experienced several different views from the rooms during the 4 separate stays at the hotel...

Superb 5* hotel, excellent friendly staff, central location opposite a wonderful park.
The staff made us feel special from the moment we arrived - fantastic service with nothing being too much trouble. Very spacious comfortable room with AC and double balcony. Complimentary drinks and canapes from 5.30 - 7.30pm every evening. Huge selection for breakfast each morning and eight restaurants in the evenings offering a wide choice of cuisine. All very clean, elegant and stylish. A relaxing area around the swimming pool with ,of course, waiter service with free ice water and fruits. Sky Train station is just around the corner with Siam Sq. just two stops away. Markets and shops within two minutes walk as is Lamphini park. Bangkok, like most cities, is very busy and choked with cars but this hotel is a gem of an oasis amidst all the hustle and bustle.

Room Tip: Do not book a basic room which will be in a separate wing of the main hotel.

We would like to thank all the contributors to Trip Advisor for their opinions which helped us to choose our itinerary for our recent honeymoon.
The Dusit Thani in Bangkok was our first port of call in Thailand and what a wonderful start it was! This hotel really know how to look after their guests from the very first moment you arrive. We found it to be very worthwhile to book a Dusit Club room from many perspectives. There is a dedicated team of staff who are well qualified to look after both business people and travellers alike.
Bangkok is an extremely busy city and the hotel provides a haven of tranquility after a long flight or a hard day site-seeing. It's situation is ideal as already identified by other contributors.
We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and if we could give it six star rating, definately would do! All staff are professional, curteous and polite and endeavour to ensure you are contented and happy. The standards throughout the hotel are superb. The breakfast is without doubt the best we have ever had in any comparable hotel. Dusit Club guests have access to the third floor club area which from 5.30-7.30 provides a complimentary array of snacks and alcoholic drinks for those who wish to use it. In addition, free internet is also provided throughout the day as are soft drinks.
The hotel faces Lumpini Park which is teeming with local people from 7am-9am and later in the day, taking part if a number of activities such as Tai Chi, Kendo, Karate, Yoga and even latin american dancing! It really is quite enchanting to walk around in the early morning. We were even invited to join in with the dancing, which we did and were given Guava and cold water to share.
If you are planning to visit Bangkok, please use the Dusit Thani, you will not regret it!

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking Lumpini Park

I enjoyed this stay from start to finish, on arrival we were greeted to some beautiful music being played in the lobby on an instrument I had never seen before (I think it’s called a Kim) which put me in an immediate relaxed and happy mood, after a pretty gruelling flight.

The room was very comfortable, decent air con, everything was clean and well equiped, there was a funny window in to the shower which was a bit quirky... but all quality and well maintained.

The hotel itself was always clean and pleasant, there is a nice ‘sky bar’ with some pretty impressive views, decent breakfast and also some quality restaurants. There is a lot of space in the lobby and the bars, particularly the one by the waterfall are all well staffed and elegant. Everywhere was sufficiently cool, very nice marble finishes and air conditioning.

The pools were clean and never over crowded at the times I was using them, amongst the additional facilities I think there was even a driving range on one of the upper decks (although I didn’t see it myself).

I feel like I want to write some more about it, but I’m finding it hard to highlight negatives as everything seemed to be well done from the start.

Simply put, it’s a great hotel and although Bangkok isn’t in my favourite cities, I’d definitely stay here again because everything worked. Stand out memories for me was having a nice cocktail in earshot of the music being played in the lobby, elegant stuff. This is how hotels should be.

Thinking about it now, I've stayed at the Dusit Thani off and on for the last 26 years while traveling for business to Bangkok (from other Asian cities I have lived/worked in...). As many other reviewers have stated, she is like the Grande Dame of hotels in Bangkok, famous in past years for hosting royalty, celebrities, etc. etc. It traditionally has been the meeting place of Thai high society and for those who wanted to see and be seen. The property has indeed aged, even with renovations along the way, but the hotel continues to express the feel of Thai hospitality and it is like meeting up with an old friend; no matter how long you have been away, walking into the hotel's spacious and historical lobby always brings a smile. More than anything, for those doing business in Bangkok, or wanting to be in the middle of great shopping/dining/nightlife/nightmarket areas, the Dusit Thani is one of the best choices possible. Every business person in Bangkok knows the Dusit Thani well and it's such a convenient, professional, respectable and welcoming place to hold meetings (the lobby is vast and it's always pleasant to sit outside in the large tropical garden area in the lower lobby, resplendent with koi fish pond (some of these fish must be 30+ years old); great place as well for a snack or cocktails. The staff at the hotel are well known for their sincere kindness and prompt, professional service (the concierges are amazing and go well out of their way to make anything that you need happen quickly). The rooms are nothing extraordinary anymore with so many amazing boutique and five-star hotels in Bangkok, but they are certainly 4-store calibre and have wireless (crucial); both my husband and I have always stayed in Grand Club rooms (separate living room and bedroom). As for the Club, compared to other hotels with Clubs (Hyatts, Shangri-la's, Mandarin, etc.), it's a poor comparison. Fine for business meetings (the Club staff are excellent in carrying out business needs), getting online w/computers available, but other than having free alcohol, the canapes offered are pretty dismal (Clubs like these are the ones that make me think they are set up so you don't stay long and use the hotel restaurants or go elsewhere...not much invested in making you want to stay...no windows/views, nothing very nice to nibble on and finally they have set up a small area on the roof outside for those who smoke, or for those of us who just prefer a warmer Club area than the freezing interiors of Thai hotels...I find the Dusit Thani Club very claustrophopic overall, which is just as well as there is so much good food waiting throughout Bangkok that you wouldn't want to stuff yourself with Club canapes). The hotel restaurants are all good but none of them make me want to stay in the hotel to eat. The pool is adequate but not very inviting overall to linger for hours (as opposed to some of the boutique hotels throughout Asia where you just want to spend a full day by the pool as it's so luxurious). The gym, however, is excellent (but cold, so wear a sweatsuit if you want to avoid freezing). Another favorite part of staying at the Dusit Thani for me is if you have a room package that includes breakfast, it's absolutely fantastic at Il Cielo. Along with a huge buffet, you are given a little menu to mark off whatever you'd like the chef to cook...as little or as much as you want and they carry both Western and Asian choices and all of the food is so fresh. It's one of the best hotel restaurant breakfasts in Asia (and we are not big breakfast eaters, but it's very hard to resist here) and we always look forward to dining there (and then one truly doesn't need to eat for the rest of the day). For business or being in a great location for convenient shopping/transport, the Dusit Thani always is our first choice. If on vacation, or a romantic/decadent trip where I want to be pampered with luxury/opulence/decadence (inviting pool/spa/divine restaurants/the best of what Thailand has to offer), there are several other Bangkok hotels I prefer now. But the Dusit Thani will forever be the memorable Dusit Thani.

Room Tip: Grand Rooms are nicer as they have a separate living area from the bedroom.
