Stayed here a couple times, last time being May '06. Really nice place, although room decor could use a minor upgrading (looks to be circa late 80's). It is adjacent to some nice shopping centers and JJ market. Even good access to public trans.

Three shining areas of this hotel:

#1: Service- As in most nicer hotels, the Thai staff-people are always wonderful and go out of their way for you. It will be a sad day when you see western attitudes prevail amongst the culture there.

#2: Top Class Massage!!- Wonderful, completely professional and thorough. Beautiful surroundings, smells, and hands that make you melt (No tawdry stuff here mind you!:) One of the best in Bkk.

#3: Bua Restaurant - Even though you can break a sweat sitting outside at this restaurant, the food here is really fantastic. Beautiful views of the large garden. Nice albino plecostomus in the tank too!

Although its an older hotel you will enjoy yourself here :)

Great hotel, we've enjoyed the stay (me and my spouse are travel agents) and I have checked the hotel.
The only downside is that it's about 40 minutes from the new airport.
On the other hand the hotel has great restaurants and a mall in less then a minute walking (across the parking lot).
another good thing is that the hotel is close to Mo Chit (the edge of the skytrain route) and the weekend market.
I must admit that we've stayed at the delxue rooms but with only a small difference in rate.
The hotel is near the highway but we haven't heard a thing..

MY wife and i booked this hotel through the official Accor site. So we thougt this so called 4 star hotel was trust worthy. We booked 5 nites with an option of 6 more. We checked in with our confirmation number and than the hypocrisie starts. We were presented an upgrade offer with the following for 32 USD.
..Upgrade to the Dynasty club on the 20 and 21st floor.
..complimentary 30 minutes internet per day
.. complimentary contintal breakfast
..Personal Butler service
..Complintary tea fron 1400 till 1600 hr
...Complimentary happy hour from 1700 till 1930 hr

Do not buy it ! It is an official scam from this Sofitel Grand plaza hotel.THIS HOTEL IS A DISASTER. The room is out dated. They don,t use window washer so your view from one of the top floor is through dirty windows.

The hotel staff on this floor is not to trust. My wife and i cut our 5 nites back to 3 after 500 Thai Baht and 20 euro was stolen from our room while we were having tea in the Dynasty club. We had just came back from the mall and my wife forgot to place her wallet in the safe for just an hour.

We had the "do not disturb sign on the door" but the staff know that we were having tea. But the biggest scam came at the check out. We had stayed 3 nites for 90 usd a nite inclusive of tax and service charge. So the total was 270 usd. We payed with visa and trough some money exhange construction the bill was 282 Euro instead of 220 euro. The Bill was not specified. You could not make out how much the tax and service. First they will also present you at check out some bogus bill in Thai Baht and transfer it in to euro cause you are under the assumption that credit card draft is also in Thai Baht. We refused to accept a bill that was not specified and the assistant manager
told us that the hotel system cannot produce a specifi bill. Can you believe this???? The manager was nowhere to be find and the assistant manager keep saying the same over and over that the system can not produce a specifi bill.
AVOID this hotel all cost. The bath tub is only 1 foot deep and old .
It takes 15 minutes for a scrammbled egg to arrive cold at your table in the Dynasty club. Beware if you stay. You will end up paying more than what you agree on and see through those phony smiles.Everyone in this hotel is involved in this official Sofitel Grand Plaza Scam. After those 3 nites my wife and i moved to Chateau de Bangkok (Accor Hotel) in the Embassy
area and were treated like royals. I can surely recommend
Chateau de Bangkok to everybody looking good service, food and friendliness.

In late November, my wife and I we flew direct from Brisbane on a Thai Air flight (great service) to the new Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok (huge and beautiful) and took a taxi to her convention's hotel, the Sofitel Central Plaza, located near Chatuchak (cha-TOO-chak) Park, home of the vast Saturday-Sunday market thronged by Thais and tourists alike. Although it is inconveniently far from most of Bangkok’s main tourist destinations, the Sofitel Central’s complex itself includes many stores, restaurants, and a massage center, all offering prices that seem excellent to anyone who lives in Australia. There is a large, Western-style shopping center on the far side of a parking garage, including, on the top floor, a Starbucks and an Internet cafe. The outlandishly extensive breakfast buffet at Sofitel Central Plaza, included in the relatively high room price (US$140 was the convention price for two people in the room), was wonderful. I’ve now tasted thousand-year-old egg and had fish and rice soup for breakfast. I might take the soup again.

Noting that we were trying to learn a few basic Thai phrases, the staff of the breakfast buffet was most accommodating. In particular, a waitress named Aree went to great lengths to help us with our pronunciations of the standard Thai greeting (the wai) and other simple expressions. She even wrote out for us, on her own time at home, I’m sure, a sheet of key Thai phases. She helped us a lot and made us feel most welcome. She was, for us, the hotel’s best ambassador.

Kham koo krap (thank you) to Aree. (Or, kohp koon krap. Transliterations of Thai words into English produce spellings that are quite various and all are, arguably, equally correct or incorrect. When you see a Thai word or name in English letters, just sound it out and people will probably understand what you’re trying to say. We found that most Thais appreciated our clumsy attempts to use a few Thai words.)

Just came back from a week stay in the Sofitel Grand Plaza hotel. Was there for a conference and booked the Dynasty club room on the top floor, which give you the usual club benefits. Its true that the hotel room is a bit worn out and outdated, however i must admit that the rooms are well equiped and immaculately clean. The staff and service that i encountered during my stay were very pleasant, helpful and professional contrary to the reviews. Hotel has a nice swimming pool area that resemble an oasis. Service from airport pickup to the Dynasty lounge were swift, attentive and warm. Couldn't have asked for more. The Central mall located next to the hotel is definitely a plus for last minute shopping. Great stores and plenty of good restaurants to choose from. A taxi trip to Siam Square only takes 15-20 mins, or take the MoChit BTS which takes you direct to MBK shopping mall. Overall a great stay and would recommend if you can find a good rate.
