“Great accommodation”
Reviewed 16 January 2012

Stayed at Shama during the New Years Eve period 2011 - 2012. This hotel is exellent, great staff willing to help. Rooms are big and spacious. The roof top pool is great, with a wonderful view of Bangkok. Special mention to Sukamal Mondal general manager at Shama, a great person, and always willing to help, I wish him all the best. Would recommend this hotel and will stay here again.

There were huge airconditions machines at the neigbourgs roof. We were at the 9th floor and noise was very disturbing. Breakfast was very minimum. But otherwise, location, cleanliness and service were quite good.

Shama has yet again met our expectations. The friendly staffs and the excellent room condition always never fail to make us feel at home. This is our 2nd time to Shama and will definitely make Shama our choice for subsequent visits.

The only thing I wish is that it will be lovely if they have a steam/sauna room.

I searched on line for a hotel/apartment that could accommodate 4 of us in one room and the search came back suggesting the Shama Serviced apartments, so I read the reviews. They were all so positive. We were given room no 1 on the 8th floor. It was a corner 2 bed apartment which was big and spacious with a kichen area, dining space and living apace with a corner sofa and huge tv/theatre/dvd system.
One bed room was twin, with a bathroom of the entrance area which had a lovely modern walk in shower and a separate bath. The other bedroom had a double bed with its own tv and an en suite with a large walk in shower. The apartment seemed to have its own boiler so there was never any problem with a shortage of hot water or low pressure.
The location is next to the JW Marriott on Soi 2 of Sukhumvit Road, 5 min walk from Nana and Ploit BTS station.
I followed other travellers advise and requested a room high up facing Soi 2, NOT Soi 4 as Soi 4 has many bars. That request was met. We had a problme with the home theatre systme sound and an engineer was sent who fixed it immediately. The Apartments have DVDs you can borrow and books. They also have two games rooms for children (on the 6th floor). We did not use them as we found they were frequented by unaccompanied children or children who had been left under the supervision of their maids (and the children were not polite to their maid! - not something I want my kids to be around).
On the 17th floor there is a gym and on the 18th floor a roof top pool. The only down sizde of the pool is it only had 7 loungers. I suggested they should have more and could even be located on the garden terrace on the 17th floor which can be reached from steps from the pool area. I would be a perfect quiet sunbathing area.
The staff in the reception area/lobby were courteous and helpful, advising us to take taxis and not tuk tuks as tuk tuks over charge, and taxis have a metre that should be used. They showed us a picturesque way to get to the Grand Palace, using a taxi to central ferry station, where we took a public ferry boat up river (15 baht each) to The Grand Palace, taking in views of Wat Arun and river life. The Grand Palace is a stop number 9. After the Grand Palace we skirted the walls to Wat Pho. We had an ice cream in a park before hand near Wat Pho over looking the river, then ate at Rub Ar Roon restaurant when we came out of Wat Pho - a suggestion in the Lonely Planet guide. All great stuff. We then boarded a ferry from stop 8 back down river to the central stop where we got an 80 baht taxi back to the apartments.
I have to say the Shama staff could not have been more helpful! It was not like staying in a big hotel which can be costly and a bit stale at times. It felt homely. They had thought of everything - there was even a small tub of washing powder so we could use the washing machine a couple of times. If you wanted to cook in you could. The kitchen was fully equiped and there was a supermarket in the basement of Ploen Chit shopping centre which is opposite the Marriot on Soi 2.
Thank you. We will recommend Shama.

Room Tip: High floor facing Soi 2. Ask NOT to face Soi 4 unless you want to hear and watch the comings and go...

I'm a returning guest who stayed at the Shama Sukumvit exactly a year ago. I enjoyed the large living area and kitchenette in my apartment. This time I was pleasantly surprised that a 3-bedroom penthouse had been arranged with a large porch equipped with a BBQ pit and outdoor furniture for our two nights stay. The staff was very helpful and would even go an extra mile to purchase beverages for us in the nearest convenient store. Service has always been excellent at the Shama. I was glad to learn that they are going to upgrade their wifi which was quite unstable during our stay. Other than this, we were happy and will definitely return again.
