We went here before and after our trek to Everest Basecamp and, on both visits, really loved the food and the ambience. I had the eggplant moussaka both times and it was delicious - especially so after many days of trekking food (couldn't wait to return!) It's a very worthwhile project too and deserving of support. A great place to 'hang out', enjoy delicious food, an Everest beer and chat to other travellers! Well done!

Seven of us went to this outlandishly bad restaurant for lunch today. Foreigners were smoking weed and making a mockery of the local customs and laws.
The order was take immediately. But food did not come for over 90 minutes and our hunger just evaporated. We had ordered a mix of Indian and continental dishes. The food that finally came after an eternity tasted terrible and it was an apology of the cuisine that was it to be.
The service was bad. Waiters were non committed and bad attitude added salt to the injury.

I cannot understand how an establishment as bad as Sarangi Vegetarian Restaurant can be rated so high on my dear Trip advisor.

I am sorry that you experienced us in this way. 90 minutes is too long to wait and the waiters are trained in updating guests if they expect delays. We will look into why this did not happen. Guests mostly comment that the service and food is exceptionally good, so I have no explanation of why your experience differed so dramatically. I agree that smoking weed on the premises is not acceptable. We do have a sign saying "no smoking weed" but perhaps we can be more diligent in asking people to desist if they light up. I do hope you give us another chance.

We came here for lunch and were enjoying our food until my husband saw one of the wait staff dip his cleaning cloth into the fish tank and use it to wipe an adjacent table. My husband didn’t eat the rest of his food.

We do admire the community based projects and recommend they incorporate teaching proper hygiene and food handling practices into their program.

So sorry about the hygiene issue. We will certainly retrain the waiter. Standards in Nepal can be very different from the West, so something obvious like this, can occur as not a problem to local people. Thanks for pointing this out to us.

Great little place just off the main highstreet. Interesting, innovative menu with a wide range of veg and vegan dishes (try the mushroom crepe it was delicious!). Also, the staff are super friendly.
