Protea Hotel by Marriott Windhoek Furstenhof

Yet placed between streets just outside the city center, this hotel is among the calmest and most quiet hotels I’ve been to in a long time. Clean room, extremely relaxed breakfast (and good food) and a nice bar and fireplace to relax in the evening. Enjoyable, really!

Friendly staff, clean rooms, very good location, food is OK.
Nothing special in general, but for a business traveller this could be the place for a night in Windhoek. It could do with a bit of renovation as the facilities and finishes are aged.

truly lovely stay in Windhoek, think it may have been the wing i stayed in - the rooms with external balconies. Whilst on a very busy intersections making accessibility great, you have no sense of noise in the room. Had a bath and shower - which is luxury. Food good and staff friendly. The car park is at the rear of the hotel - meaning you need to walk. This could be a problem for some travellers.

Room Tip: choose the room with private balcony

We visited on business and the hotel just met expectations. The rooms however are old and tired. The room I had was tatty. Clean and perfect for a short stay. But hotel needs a face lift.
The hotel is situated in a good spot close to town and main routes.
Breakfast was Protea standard good and enjoyed.

This hotel offers good food, it is neat and very clean and the furnishings are excellent. It is a bit old but the wooden accents are appealing.

However! The fittings in the rooms are not maintained (as others have also pointed out). I stayed there for two nights, I had to move out of the first room because when I wanted to shower in the morning there was no shower head. That was after the loose shelf in the bathroom had tipped a glass into the basin, shattering it; after realizing that there was only a broken piece of a toilet roll holder.

The next room was an "upgrade", luckily, as I was getting the room the person checking out from it pointed out that the shower door almost fell on her. So they fixed it. That still meant, it turned out, that none of the blinds could be pulled up and that one towel rail was still represented by only its left bracket.

Now you have to ask yourself what is going on here? So good and so bad. That missing shower head had clearly been noticed because it was no longer in the bathroom: been tidied away. The toilet roll still had its little folded triangle (hotels love this for some reason) just it was around the corner from the toilet. It is as if the hotel is run by an excellent group of cleaners with no appreciation that maintenance is need to keep fixtures functional.

Room Tip: Check *all* fittings (shower, toilet, windows) before accepting a room.
