The taxi fare to Port Louis charged by the official taxi counter at the Arrivals Hall of the Airport is an exorbitant MRs. 1,500.

There are plenty of money changers inside. The ATMs are outside the building.

The cheaper alternative to Port Louis is to take the bus from the stop just outside.

I did not come across any direct buses to Port Louis, but they may exist. Can take a bus to Curepipe (MRs 34) - duration 1 hour. Then an express bus to Port Louis from the Curepipe bus stand. Fare MRs 34. Duration 45 minutes. It's a 10 minute walk to the hotel from the bus stand.

Not many people seem to be familiar with St George's Street, so ask for the Mauritius Telecom building first and go from there.
The Hotel is opposite the French Embassy.

St George's Hotel has 11 floors. Everything in this hotel is old. The rooms and toilet need renovation, but are clean.

Nothing special in this hotel. One gets the feeling that the staff are just going through the motions in their own lazy way until the hotel closes down for good.

The complementary breakfast is basic. The bread was very fresh and tasty though. Overall acceptable.

This hotel is definitely one you can stay in, but too costly in relation to the quality offered.

Taxi fares in Mauritius are extremely high. Can use the proximity of the hotel to the Bus Station to your advantage.

Found a direct bus No 198 to the Airport from a bus stop which is a short walk away passing the Police Station. Fare only MRs 34 !!

Room tip: Rooms on the side of George's Street have beautiful views of the mountain range. It's a very pleasant sight.

Rude and racist staff in the restaurant, they claim to offer buffer breakfast and restricting the guest not to have the second omlette .........you request them to switch on the AC or atleast the fan as the room temp is very hot, they will nod their head and after 10 minutes when you request them once again, after showing faces, they will switch on the fan and keep it running at the lowest possible speed to discourage you to stay any further. I have been staying here since the 16th and will be checking out on the 20th, . Room split airconditioner is pathetic, requested for a wake up call by 7 am and by 8.20 i get up on my own and asked the reception why was i not woken up, the answer comes from the hotel male receptionist that.........I WAS BUSY"SO FORGOT...........does not even feel sorry for his mistake nor do they value others time. . just thought of sharing my experiences for others to decide when they choose this hotel for a business stay. Thank goodness i did not come and stay at this hotel with my family for holiday.

Room tip: Never will recommend this hotel, if by default its choosen pls take a room facing the french embassy, has a good valley view

Stayed at the hotel because it was the only one available at short notice close to the U.S embassy. The hotel is shabby but the staff is really friendly and helpful. Not much available at breakfast either.
The hotel is also conveniently located neat the Port Louis bazaar which is definitely a place to visit. Had fun bargaining with the people there and there's a lot of options so make sure to walk around before making a purchase.
