Description: San Toro is a well known restaurant in the center of Bamako with 20 years of history. Koffi Annan and the current King of The Netherlands are well known visitors. The food and the characteristic decoration are traditional African. The grilled fish and meat have an excellent reputation like the delicious local juices. The large garden and paillote offer excellent opportunities for meetings and seminars. Alcohol is not served.

It is hard to remember that you are in the middle of one of the fastest growing cities in Africa as you walk through San Toro's courtyard to the restaurant. The ambiance is immediately tranquil and relaxing. The artwork in the courtyard (modern welded sculptures) and in the restaurant (traditional Malian patterns, masks and carvings) is amazing. There is a lot of attention to the details at this restaurant.

The delicious food is West & North African inspired. It is served on locally made pottery. (I really enjoyed my beef tagine with cashews and honey!) I will also echo the praise for the San Toro Cocktail, a hibiscus and ginger drink. (As others have noted San Toro does not serve alcohol.) The service was discreet and efficient.

I visited on a Monday evening, and for much of the time my friend and I were the only guests in the restaurant. Nevertheless, a musician was on the small stage playing the Kora (beautiful). It was easy to linger because everything about the experience was so relaxing.

Good local food, amazing ambiance, taking exquisite inspiration from Mali's rich cultural past (complete with live kora music). I like the fact that, because of how the place was laid out, one is in one of the busiest and noisiest parts of Bamako yet suddenly shut in a quiet and peaceful and comfortable spot.

Having read about it I was determined to make sure I dined here this time, and it was all good!

The restaurant and its courtyard and other buildings have such a serenity about them that its hard to believe its all in the middle of Bamako.

The restaurant ambiance is lovely, muted colors and roughly plastered walls give the place a wonderful ambiance. A little musty but it all adds up.

While we dined there was live Kora music played behind us which added to the pleasure of being there.

The staff is attentive and helpful, the menu offering a range of food from various African countries.

And the food was good - served hot, very very hot, it was perfectly cooked, tender meats, sauces that were full of flavor and spice; generous servings and all so well priced - fully worth it and more!

Their juices, Tamarind, Ginger and Bissap were good, making up for the lack of more portent drinks which is a little bit of a downer; BUT none of that spoils it all!

Most certainly going there again!
