I stayed at the GHI last week, for the full week. Allow me to summarise as follows;

Rooms:

Very outdated and filthy, with an overwhelming stench of damp and mould. The beds are lumpy and uncomfortable. There is no bottled water in the room and everything is stained, from the carpets to the bedding and even the towels. I noticed a few old expats taking what appeared to be prostitutes to their rooms... highlighting my perception that this place is nothing more that a ruinous old brothel.

Food:

The food really sucks. Like big time. In fact if one had to do a health and safety assessment in the kitchen, I'm sure one might even discover new species of bacteria. The breakfast is so limited and disgusting that I ate mostly bread and jam each day. Words cannot describe it so I will post some pictures here to help illustrate.

Overall, the place is falling apart, and is in serious need of tens of millions of dollars in refurbishment.

Pity.

This is one of the most depressing hotels you can stay in. Poorly maintained, the towels are stained, elevators do not work and are dirty, the staff is poorly trained, lacks customer management skills, their cutlery is dirty, the food is terrible, the rooms stink. In general, when you are in a room it feels like a decease would walk in and introduce itself as your killer!!

Do not go to this hotel!!

The newer hotels in the area mean this place is now usually empty, save for local military or political guests. They have made a few improvements since losing the Novotel name, such as greatly improved wi-fi and a working ATM in the lobby.
The location is still one of the best though, and they are negotiable on price if you contact them before arriving. Pool is still one of the best in town. The service here is now greatly improved, especially the maintenance people if there is an issue, they are on it right away - a surprise in Conakry!

Room tip: Make sure to request a sea view room.

This hotel does indeed have a great location and great views out to sea, but it needs attention. Elevators are in terrible shape and do not encourage confidence. Rooms are relatively clean and spacious. Restaurant had a very limited selection, the menu was aspiration much more than factual. We were offered steak, brochettes, or hamburger! Sounded like there was one bit of beef that could be subdivided to the extent desired! Breakfast buffet was pretty limited. We did have a few beers on the seafront and enjoyed the view and cool breeze; highly recommended for a happy hour. For Guinea this is a good hotel, but not for Conakry. This would be a one or two star hotel in SE Asia.

Very nice hotel overall. Great location by the sea overlooking the Iles de Los. Perfect for sunsets and sundowners. Nice pool, too. Generally quite dated, though. A former Novotel, total flashback to the 1980s. Restaurant nothing special.

Still highly recommended for its location and ambiance. I'll be staying here again!
