Worth the quick visit and it is fairly cheap… GHC10 is the admission fee. When we arrived the building where the newer museum would be was under construction. I think that new building will elevate the park’s experience and legacy of Nkrumah.

I came here because it is the top rated site I.n The city. The museum is under renovation, so only a few things are on display at the temporary area. I took that into account for the rating or I would have given it lower. Nice park to stroll through and good history here.

Kwame Nkrumah was such a significant figure in Ghanaian history that it is fitting to have a memorial park, fittingly situated in the park where independence was declared n 1957.

The mausoleum is built in what looks like marble and a simple but dignified design. In front a statue of Nkrumah pointing the way forward gives him the look of a hero. The statues of musicians in the reflecting pool heralding his approach s also impressive.

The small museum is being renovated and so the very limited number of exhibits are in the administration block. These are mostly pictures of Nkrumah with world leaders. When the museum is open, it would be good to have a fuller account of achievements and weaknesses.

The garden is now decaying badly with much broken concrete. The reflecting pool is often empty and the signs describing the trees planted by visiting heads of state are falling over or missing. Some of the trees are looking the worse for wear.

An essential visit but it would be good to make the effort to keep the gardens tidy and the fountains working.

Kwame Nykrumah is honored as the father of Ghanaian independence. The attached museum traces his history with pictures, documents and artifacts. While we were there, we had the great fortune of meeting his daughter Samia, who is now a political leader.
