In the middle of no where

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 July 2019via mobile
Great tents with flush toilet and shower. So isolated here so make sure you have everything you need. Great friendly staff. Wine list limited & expensive, lucky we bought some along with us.
The food was very average. Not sure what all the other reviews were going on about. Always a buffet with over cooked meat. Note: Eat at the start of the service other wise the meals in the bay marie’s get cold, especially at breakfast.

We did have an amazing stay due to the location, the sightings, the nightly boma”s and no rain. The bed comfy and the tent clean. You are not allowed to wash any clothes even underwear due to restrictions. This was a little annoying as I thought after traveling and a 3 night stop over here would be a good chance to catch up on washing. So be aware.

Mawe Tented Camp was a pleasant surprise. Probably the cleanest tent we have ever stayed in (and we have gone on a lot of safaris). The food was excellent, the staff was fun! I really enjoyed sitting around the campfire on our last night and chatting with one of the staff (wish I knew his name). Our farewell songs in the morning was awesome! I would have loved to stay longer and hope to return one day. Keep up the great work guys, you have a little gem!

Stayed at this camp for two nights, and thought it was absolutely fabulous. From the moment you arrive, the staff treat you like friends. The tent was lovely and comfortable with a good bathroom. At night in bed you can here the sound of the animals around you, which is fantastic. The food served is very good, and packed lunches lovely. We went on a game drive with John, who accompanied us in our car, and he was really great, so knowledgeable. We ate dinner outside by the fire the second night and as it was someone’s birthday, the staff all came out singing. Just a wonderful camp, in the middle of the Serengeti NP. You do have to pay all the park feed per person and camping and car fees, but it was lovely.
Would definitely recommend a stay.

Amazing describes our stay at Mawe Tented Camp—an ultimate safari experience, perfect in every way. As the three us were escorted to our tents upon arrival, we saw In the distance a herd of elephants, and realized that we were truly in the midst of the Serengeti wilderness. The tents were a joy of African ambiance – comfortable beds, private bathroom and shower. They were also environmentally friendly, the water for showers heated by solar power. Can’t say enough about the Mawe staff –so enthusiastic and eager to help. The chefs rival those of the finest gourmet restaurants. One day, arriving back at camp early, we were prepared an elegant lunch, served outdoors—we felt we were in a movie scene. Every evening for dinner, there was always tasty soup – pumpkin, cucumber - a wonderful salad and a delicious entrée, with fresh vegetables and fruit. Although the dining tent is convivial and comfortable, reality sets in after dinner: an armed ranger must escort guests to their tents. It is a reminder that Mawe has no fences. Animals—maybe dangerous animals—could be nearby, which made the experience even more special.
Our guide/driver for our three days with Mawe was Anderson, and words alone can’t describe his kindness, his experience, his knowledge. On our game-viewing drives he displayed the eyes of an eagle, spotting animals hidden under trees and bushes and places where no ordinary human eye would have spotted them—his eyesight seemed downright superhuman and he knew just where to find the animals. We saw many lions, both male and female (one male gluttonously devouring a freshly-killed wildebeest under a tree), families of elephants, cape buffalo, giraffes, cheetahs, and antelope of every kind. He had an encyclopedic mind as well, answering every question about Tanzania.
Enroute to Ngorongoro Crater, we drove past an enormous herd of cape buffalo crossing the Serengeti, and antelope were everywhere. Then there was a wonderful, added bonus: an unplanned detour to a Masai Village. So fascinating! the Masai were an unexpected delight.
Even more than the Serengeti, the crater teemed with wild animals and exotic birds of every description. Anderson even pointed out a pair of black rhinoceros in the distance, a very rare animal (unfortunately, close to extinction). The beauty of the animals and landscape of the crater is just beyond description—you feel as though you have entered the Garden of Eden, an experience that brought tears of joy to (at least) one of us. All in all, the entire Mawe experience was exceptional. We loved it and know everyone will. We will never, never forget it.

Serengeti Mawe Camp surpassed our expectations in every way, but most of all the staff!! From the start, when the entire team greeted us at our truck with mango juice when we arrived, to the end when the staff awoke early to prepare us an early breakfast, we were treated like royalty from start to finish. The camp itself is simple, peaceful, clean, quiet and you are truly immersed in the Serengeti. The food was the best we had in Tanzania, with enough options to please every palate, including a nightly vegetarian option. The rooms are clean and spacious and tastefully decorated in African decor, the ensuite showers and toilets are great. Our guide, Anderson, was kind, knowledgeable patient and lead us to all of the big five and then some! The best part of the stay was when two cheetah's took down a gisele behind our camp and the staff notified all the guests and brought us out in the jeeps to witness the cheetah's enjoying the aftermath (sounds gruesome but was very cool). We also were able to see elephants in the distance from our tent door. It is everything you would want for a stay in the Serengeti! The staff does everything to accommodate all of your needs and wishes.
