This is such a fun place. Small, intimate, slightly shabby (by which I mean lived in) but very comfortable furniture, lovely garden, great pool, nice room (ours had a terrace), atmospheric, with a Patron who is constantly around enjoying his hotel and helping his guests do so too. Its quiet, very, very relaxing with lovely outdoor and indoor seating areas. Service is informal - its a bit like staying in someone's private house. Inevitably things don't work - broken loo seat, a dribble for a shower, heating/aircon in the room didn't seem to work but somehow it all adds to the charm of the place. We only stayed for one night on our way back to the UK but would happily have stayed for two or three. Downside? - its a 20 minute taxi ride to the centre of Marrakesh, so you need to factor in the cost of taxis if you plan being a frequent visitor to the delights of the City.

Room Tip: Its a very quite residential location so all rooms are likely to be quiet with a green view.

We spent five nights at Dar Nanka in Feb 2018. We like small luxury hotels that are individual with lots of character and it was just that!

Location wise its a good 20 mins drive from the airport and the medina. We liked being away from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech; the hotel is very laid back and chilled and its easy to spend a day reading in one of the big sofas or by the pool. There is a free shuttle to and from the medina, but at slightly odd times so we ended up paying for trips at times that suited us - approx £16 one way.

Lunch and dinner is excellent - the food really was very good. Breakfasts were also good, quite simple but you can order eggs any style and the Moroccan pancakes were delicious. We're coffee snobs and the coffee was great.

Our room was beautifully decorated and very charming. The shower wasn't brilliant - sometimes there was lots of hot water and good pressure, other times it was lukewarm and a trickle.... but hey, its Morocco and its not the Four Seasons Hotel! The DVD library is a bit far fetched.... but the owners are well meaning and work hard to create a nice vibe. We asked for the fire in our room to be lit and SImon, one of the staff, spent ages creating a roaring furnace which lasted all night.

Probably not a place for people who don't like animals (we do!) as the owners dogs and cat are around a lot. They're absolutely lovely but they do sleep on the furniture and sun loungers so something to be aware of if you have allergies.

The best way to describe this place really is like staying in someone's home. You kind of fit in with what the owners are up to - they were around a lot and were very sweet, but it does feel like their home rather than a business. This was great with us but I can see where negative reviewers must have hated it - if you're after a hotel with 5 star service, this isn't for you :)

The staff were brilliant - you do have to ask for things, but they'll do everything they can to accomodate you. We'd happily stay there again (although will check the swimming pool heater is working first as it was too cold to swim).

Room Tip: If you opt for a terrace, make sure it gets the sun all day

Dear Kate,

Thank you very much for the compliments sent to the team and to the kitchen.
Indeed it was difficult to warm the swimming pool because nights at nights were very cold. Temperature fell unless 5°C at night. Time wae very cold this year.
We will hope to receive you another time.

Best regards

What an hideaway... I mean if you look for something different from the usual Hilton room and the "there is nothing wrong here" (but nothing right) go to Dar Nanka... This is a very special place and I travel around the world a lot... Yep a bit of jet setting here and if you are in your mid 40s and looking for a nice place with nice people you have to go there. Prices are really correct, the place is decorated with a lot of taste and the owners are just your best friends within an hour and I am not joking it was SO good to feel at home here an not in an hotel... the staff is very nice, being a french speaker helps a lot for sure but this is the case all over Marrakech. So if you like to party, then to relax near the pool or go to a fantastic spa (one of the best in the city) then you have to go there... I must say I read some reviews mentioning that the door of the bathroom did not fit exactly but Hey... you are in Marrocco for holidays so come on this is the real atmosphere and real small details... you know what? I got also the "problem" but damn 1) it was nothing of a problem and 2) go around in Marrakech this is the same thing everywhere ... On top of that just pop in the bar or restaurant like if you are at a friend

Room Tip: 2 houses and pavillons, for the extra quiet go for a pavillon, when you book with the hotel and ask for a quiet room...

I am usually not one for a negative review and surely there must be positives about this hotel. However, we unfortunately did not get to experience them and felt really let down by this venue.

Upon our arrival there was no explanation about breakfast, WiFi and other hotel amenities as you’d expect when you check in. No information to be found in the room either. The room was spacious and nicely decorated but unfortunately freezing cold, only lukewarm water in the shower and the bathroom door didn’t close either. We complained and had two heaters brought into the room plus the promise that someone would start the fire in the fireplace. That person never showed up and the issues with the shower and bathroom door were being ignored. You would also expect slippers and fairly new and not ripped bathrobes in a boutique hotel as it claims to be one.

After this first rather disappointing impression we went downstairs to have lunch. The surroundings are nice but the food when it arrived was extremely bland and not living up to the standards of luxury hotel also considering the prices. The same applies to the breakfast unfortunately.

However, the worst bit certainly happened on our second and last night when the owners started a party downstairs at 10pm. The music was so loud that out 1-year-old woke up and we couldn’t sleep either. Another guest went downstairs to complain but the party went on till after midnight. As in another review stated as well cigarette smoke would get into the room and made us feel very unwell.

The next morning we also witnessed that two of the three waiters were sleeping on floor next to the tables where we were having breakfast which was rather shocking.

The staff of the restaurant were however very friendly but to our opinion the owners and management of the hotel cause this lack of professionalism and guests who are expecting a boutique hotel experience will be very let down.

We stayed here two nights, should have been three but unfortunately we had to leave and book elsewhere. There were parties held by the staff which were very noisy and went on until the early hours both nights. I hardly slept! The people that run the hotel are just so lovely and very inclusive. If you like to party you should go because it is the nicest place and they are very welcoming. Unfortunately I was looking for relaxation and tranquility so in the end I had to leave and book elsewhere.

Lots of great positives: the property is stunning! Beautifully decorated. Really homely. Staff are all wonderful! Breakfast and food in general very high quality. People can’t do enough for you. Room spacious with huge balcony overlooking the mountains.

A few negatives: loud parties! Smoking all night. The cigarette smoke entered our room and along with the noise made it very difficult to sleep and made me feel unwell. Our toilet door wouldn’t close... we reported it but didn’t get fixed. So each time one of us needed the loo the other would have to leave the room. Not what you want on a romantic break! Tv didn’t work, we didn’t mind this, the safe wouldn’t work and in general I think we were very difficult to understand, the staff speak broken English, and as a result we struggled to get what we wanted. Our shower was just a dribble and the water Luke warm. The spa isn’t part of the hotel and again we struggled to be understood. It was difficult to make an appointment! I think a garden room may have been a better option. We stayed in the main house.

There are lots of good reasons to go. But be clear what you will get and if necessary you can contact them to see if there are parties planned. It didn’t seem like a one off...

Lots of people complained about the transfer and free shuttle on trip advisor but we used this many times and it worked wonderfully.
