I had dinner at the Dar Hatim twice - was also staying at the owners hotel Al Fassiah Palace just 2 streets away from the hotel.

The restaurant works with a fixed menu.
You start of with a selection of vegetables and dips (about 9, a lot!)
Then you choose your main course, there's about 5 things to pick from.
I had lamb once and a 'special order' of fish the second night.
Both very tasty.
You get a small plate of fruits as dessert but you'll be so full...

Nice option, good food and friendly service

Persuaded by the superb reviews on TA, while in Fes we made a reservation for dinner at Dar Hatim, and had an extraordinary evening--a truly wonderful meal in a stunning setting. Given our distance from the restaurant (the other end of the medina), we were grateful to be picked up at our riad by car by a staff member (and returned at the end of the evening by the owner himself, Fouad!). Karima, his wife and chef (along with her mother-in-law) personally came to our table to describe the menu to us. We were delighted with the whole meal: assorted salads, pastilla, mother-in-law's special lamb dish, followed by fruit accompanied by what Karima called tiramisu, but which tasted more like a French buttercream laden pastry. Bliss! Altlhough there is no wine for purchase at Restaurant Dar Hatim, we asked and were granted permission to bring our own bottle of wine, which was then served to us during dinner.

Throughout our meal, we were seated in a beautifully decorated alcove where we enjoyed the sense of a private space, while courteous and timely attention from owners and staff never ceased. Even the owners' eldest son (13 years old), who graciously greeted guests upon arrival, later checked at our table to make sure we were content. After our meal, we couldn't leave without admiring the main dining area. Karima and Fouad graciously answered our questions about the skilled craftsmanship in evidence all around us. We learned that they only recently opened a restored riad (Riad Al Fassia Palace) and if we are fortunate enough to return one day to Fes, we shall plan on staying there. It's already getting rave reviews.

Do not miss dining at Restaurant Dar Hatim when you visit Fes.

Tucked away in small side street, Dar Hatim was a splendid surprise. Arriving at 8:30, we were really lucky to be taken without a reservation.

Dinner started with an assortment of traditional moroccan salads - both beautiful and tasty. We got the lamb special and chicken pastilla, both of which were probably the best in Morocco. Although we did not get wine, we saw that other customers were drinking. Overall the prices were more than fair for the amount and quality of food- roughly 25USD per person.

Additionally the owners were fluent in french, Arabic, and English and the husband and wife duo's warm welcome and joviality made it feel like being welcomed into a home.

The riad itself was beautiful - this painted ceilings were gorgeous!

The first girl who came to us was very friendly but didn’t speak any English, a second lady came who was very rude. We couldn’t use the terrace despite being advertised. Finally the menu was extremely limited only offering 4 dishes, missing some very traditional moroccan food.
