Fish and chips were good; QUANTITY plus.

Loved the Beatles/UK posters all over this small restaurant.

Good service. Tea pots galore there.

When we arrived we could not tell if the place was open and had to send someone out of the car to check. The service was poor. We were ignored on entering while the employees glanced at as us and kept on chatting. After standing there looking around we thought we would go sit at a table. The atmosphere was dreary and unwelcoming. The table did not sit flat and kept wobbling. A gal eventually wandered over and handed us menus without much of a greeting and then walked away. We ordered the breaded cheese curds for an appetizer, and the bangers and mash, fish and chips, Guinness pie, and the tenderloin sandwich for our lunch. Unfortunately, I don't have anything positive that comes to mind about the food. The four of us had a hard time finishing the cheese curds because nobody liked them. The bangers and mash was edible but nearly tasteless. The tenderloin.... how do you mess up a tenderloin?.... was unsavory. The unappetizing and tasteless fish was dripping in grease. The Guinness pie was a very small bowl of what looked like beef stew. It was bland. We found no reason to return for the food.

Our first time here. Only a few tables (plus a few outside), felt a little cramped. Fun decorations & items for sale (will be back in a couple of months to buy stocking stuffers!). Service was slow, but food was great. Two of our party had burgers (they will cook them medium-rare) & found them good. The chips were great - perfect consistency & flavor. One had the fish & chips --- very nicely-battered fillets (thin, light & crisp). I had the soup of the day --- corn-bacon chowder (good, rich) & chicken pasty (nice, homemade crust - filling just a tad dry - maybe consider offering a ranch-style dipping sauce with it?). Dessert (sticky toffee pudding) was yummy! - not overly-sweet, well-paired with vanilla ice cream. One was plenty for two to share.

Waited what seemed like a long time for our food. (The people at the table next to us were waiting too --- and eventually got up & left - not sure that they had even ordered.) They may have been short-staffed that night. (?) Had to flag down water refills, etc. However, they were unfailingly polite.

A little disappointed in the atmosphere --- hoping for an English pub feel but, despite the decorations, it seemed like just another American place. WAY (way, way) too much country music on the jukebox for a place that styles itself after a pub. (Where's the Richard Thompson & other English folk/rolk-rock music?) Can't imagine any sing-along camaraderie here.

Visited the Mucky Duck while visiting Ames for a wedding. Decided to stop here with my girlfriend for a lunch, and it is some of the best pub style food I've had in a while. Everyone was very friendly and easy to chat with and their selection of beers was great with a lot of authentic English beers.

The fish and chips was perfectly made and was absolutely delicious. Definitely a place I'd want to visit again next time I'm back in Ames. It also had a little shop built in and we got some good tea.

Traveling through Ames, IA. and wanted to find something different than fast food. I had the fish and chips and the others in my group had the specials. All of us enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere and service were great! Glad we found this place.
