Simple hotel. Very comfortable beds, hot water. No tv, but thats fine. It is oceanfront, but there is no beach. There is a seawall. There is a watertaxi dock nearby. Lots of restaurants are in walking distance.

If you want to snorkel, I'd recommend staying in West Bay though. West End is not as nice of a beach.

We stayed on Roatan for 7 nights and we looked in person at several places and stayed at one other place. Just as we were lamenting that few hotels were Honduran-owned, we came across this gem. We stayed in a cabana that was silent at night with an adorable patio, fridge, and coffee maker. We could walk down the main street where all the partying / drinking / craziness was going on and stay as long as we wanted, knowing the short walk back separated us from total tranquility. We had an ocean view and, at night, all you can hear is the ocean. The staff is incredibly responsible, attentative, and knowledgeable about the history and politics of the island and of Honduras. The icing on the cake was learning that the hotel was started over 40 years ago by the current owner's parents. Very sweet family.

Please note, I did not stay at this hotel overnight and my review is based only on my experience with the food, service and beach facilities. We booked the "Magical Island Beach Day w/ Lobster Lunch" excursion through the Celebrity cruise line ($72 per person) and this is where we ended up. The description for this excursion states that we would receive a "welcome Mimosa and hors d'oeuvres" upon our arrival. The "Mimosa" turned out to be some type of fruit juice, sans champagne (or any type of alcohol), and the single hors d'oeuvre (I have no idea what it was, but it was extremely spicy and I did not care for it) was served much later, on the beach. The excursion description further states that "lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. until 2:45 p.m.;" however, lunch was served only at 2:00 p.m. and consisted of 1 very small, cold lobster tail with some sort of cream sauce poured on top of it, "Indian" rice and an unidentifiable dish that somewhat resembled potato salad. It was quite disappointing and I did not enjoy any of it.

As for our accommodations on the beach, initially, there were not enough lounge chairs for all of the guests, so our host, Paul (who really did try his best to make everyone happy), ran around tyring to locate more chairs. My fiance and I each ended up with dirty, broken chairs (the plastic straps on the seat of my chair were broken so when I sat in it my rear end hung through and my fiance's chair was missing screws so that it shimmied and shifted every time he moved and the chair back would not stay upright). Towels were not provided, so we had to purchase them from one of the shops up the road. There were no umbrellas to provide shade from the sun, so we had to sit far back from the water, under an almond tree. There was a cash bar, but there was no running water, so the bartender would occassionally dip his blender into a bucket of water to rinse it between mixing frozen drinks. Needless to say, we were not impressed.

The restroom facilities were abysmal; 2 tiny stalls, one leaky toilet and one toilet that didn't even work, causing an extremely long line for the women's restroom. No showers and no place to change. The excursion description indicates that "buses will start returning to the vessel at approximately 1:00 p.m.;" however, they did not start running until after lunch, at approximately 2:45 p.m. We couldn't get out of there fast enough!

We found the rooms comfortable and affordable, and the maid service was prompt thorough each day. However, beware, they rent the beach to the cruise ships and when the ships are in port you'll wake up to hundreds of people outside of your room first thing in the morning. If you're looking for large crowds of people stealing everything off of your deck then this is your place. We complained to the manager that we could have been warned as we would have gone somewhere else had we known. Also make sure your outdoor shower is functional; any sand in the room brings in the sand flies and they'll eat you alive. Locating the manager can prove to be a chore around siesta time.

We found this place because the room we booked elsewhere was a dump. What a stroke of good luck. Santiago and Carlos made this stay perfect. They went out of their way to make this a pleasurable stay. They have laundry service if you ask. Good cheap beer and bottled water in the office. the best cleanest beaches. Sooo quiet.
