Manny and Tita were wonderful hosts. We came in on our sailboat and tied off on one of their mooring balls. We had access to their nature trails, kayaks and sailboats, great little restaurant, and beach. I can't think of a better place to stay in Roatan! If you like fishing, snorkeling, and peace and quiet, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Bungalow on the water has the best view and ocean breeze.

Mango Creek Lodge was the most relaxing getaway I have ever experienced. The resort prides itself on giving personal attention and fulfilling every guest's needs. Is this the Ritz? No, but honestly, we don't need another Ritz in the world. We need more places as relaxing as Mango Creek.

To be honest, I wasn't that excited to visit Mango Creek Lodge. My husband planned this vacation via a sport fishing company. I am not a fisherman, but he is, and he needed the vacation more than I. Once we arrived at the Roatan airport and met Manny, my worries went away. He assured us that we both would get what we needed from the Lodge. He was so right. My husband did a few guided fishing trips while I lounged around, explored the lodge, took a couple boat tours, snorkeled, and even road into town for a tour with Manny and his wife Teta. (We were the only visitors to the lodge so we got as much or as little attention as we wanted.) Needless to say, Mango Creek Lodge has something for everyone.

Rooms: Mango Creek Lodge is completely off the grid. All electricity comes from their solar panels, wind generators, and gas generators that run for a few hours at night. (That end of Roatan actually has no electrical cable access at this time.) We stayed in the purple over water cabana. Housekeeping was done every morning. There is no air-conditioning, but we were very comfortable with the shutters open and fan on at night. The showers are tricky due to the hot water on-demand system. Soap and shampoo were provided. There is no TV or wifi in the rooms, but at Mango Creek, you won't miss them. (We were able to use the wifi at the dining cabana to call home every evening with no problem.) **BRING BUG SPRAY. While we didn't have a huge problem with bugs, they were there buzzing around in the evenings, as expected.

Food: When we arrived at the resort, we were shown the bar and fridge and were told to help ourselves. Get whatever we wanted. Meals are served 3 times a day. One word to describe the food- AMAZING. Manny and Teta, who are part owners, run the Lodge. Teta and her assistant Joy do all of the cooking. During Manny and Teta's extensive travels, Teta picked up many recipes to use at the Lodge. Her talent was greatly appreciated- the meals were all absolutely fantastic. There was not a single one in our 7 day trip that we did not thoroughly enjoy. **Teta's desserts are TOP NOTCH. (I was lucky enough to talk her out of a few of her recipes to take home.) Would I consider it 5-star dining? No, but only because there weren't white tablecloths.

Adventure: You can do as much or as little as you like. You do pay for any extra trips that are not included in your package. (No-brainer there.) There are kayaks and other water play equipment, as well as snorkel and fishing equipment provided. Manny has someone on staff to take you fishing or snorkeling any time you want to go. One day I was looking for something to do after breakfast so I went on a mangrove tour to the other side of the island. There is absolutely no pressure to do any activities. They totally cater to you. Snorkeling was amazing and clear. There are several really good sites within sight of the resort. My husband had a great time fishing as well. He said his guide was very knowledgeable. (My husband is a fly fisherman. They encourage catch and release fishing.)

Mango Creek Lodge is not super fancy, but it is beautiful all the same. The people were friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. The owners are also very involved in helping the local community as well as coral and sea life conservation. This is not a place to go for a fancy trip. You won't be waited on hand and foot. You will be treated kindly, fed well, and will have a great time. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: We liked the purple cabana. It offered great privacy plus there's a small coral head right in front of the deck you can check out.

At $400 US per night, we had much higher expectations. This place is quiet and very remote with basic over water cabanas. The views are beautiful but no different than any other ocean location we stayed at while visiting Roatan on a 10 day trip. The small bathroom showers need improvement as the water pressure lacks and lighting is very poor. We spent 2 nights here and were ready to move on to another location as there was just not enough activity to sustain our interest level. If $400 a night is worth complete quiet to you with 3 light square meals a day (asking for extra fruit was improper) and a very limited bar selection, then you will likely enjoy it. For us, having travelled extensively around the globe, as well as all of Roatan, Mango Creek Lodge falls well below island standards for the nightly rate they are charging. Pick up and drop off airport Shuttle service is provided with the rate, however we were made to feel like it was a major inconvenience to their day even though we were requiring pick up and drop off 30 minutes closer drive from their location. Upon check out there was also an issue paying by VISA and once again were made to feel like this was our error which was not, and again a hassle to their day. We have never left a location so insulted.

It is always in the numbers, after so many great Guests there comes the time when nothing one does is enough and although when people inquire we make a point of telling that we are a Remote water accessible Eco Lodge some thrifty and abusing “Globe Travelers” do make their way here.
We do understand that we are not for everyone but will not stand for lies and words that only intend to hurt, trying to save a few dollars when paying on currency exchange and a faulty card is truly not our fault, making our driver wait outside a store for over 45 minutes while going out of the way to do a favor is right out abusive, going through two 24 beer packages and a gallon of rum in one day is not precisely limiting our guests from enjoying an open bar and our square meals are always praised and talked about by everyone who has ate them and when served Mango Creek does offer seconds but it is not easy filling up plumpness, lastly our very basic over the water Cabanas can be viewed in this site pictures so there is no misleading Guests as to what to expect.
It is sad and in bad form when people just want to cause harm for their own faults and shortcomings we are sorry that people will read this answer but we think that we do have a great place, we do our outmost to give our Guests the best of times today as well as tomorrow and we believe that we should stand up when someone with bad intentions tries to hurt us.

We stopped in to Mango Creek for lunch in our 39' Beneteau Sailing Vessel City Dogs after an early afternoon snorkeling session in Port Royal around Lime Cay. This gem of a resort, located completely off the grid on the water, doesn't exactly have a menu per se -- they just have an amazing chef who does great things for their guests. Since we weren't staying with them we had what was available which turned out to be a really fresh, delicious red snapper ceviche. Coupled with some local beer and some lively conversation with the gregarious gentleman Manny who runs the place, it was a unique experience. If you're looking for a great little getaway on the water, come check out Mango Creek on the East Side of Roatan. Or if you're in the area on the water, they're definitely worth checking out for lunch, dinner, or just a casual drink or two.

Room Tip: All rooms are on the water.

We had lunch at the restaurant and it was delicious. Fresh snapper ceviche (and I don’t even love ceviche) was so good we had a second plate. Friendly managers and good company. We’ll definitely be back.
