This was my first time at Hol Chan seeing a LARGE sea turtle. Absolutely amazing. The water was warm and while the water can be deep in places it was calm enough for our kids to join in (6 and 9).

We did a snorkel tour of the reserve and were very disappointed. This is being loved to death. There was ton of boats filled with people all snorkeling and diving. The coral was covered with a greenish moss and had very little color to it. There was a lot of fish and sea fans, but just not what we were expecting

Nice snorkeling during our full day tour mostly in shadow water filled with great underwater life where you can see many fishes, rays, turtle and also nurse sharks, We come here early so it was as busy as it was when we were about to leave. This part of the tour was with our guide and for this part is compulsory which was nice as he explained to us a lof of about the marine life. As the waters are shallow you should watch out not to touch the corals otherwise you seriously harm them. This is protective area which should be preserver for others to come and see this beauty.

This reef is about 15 mins away from the various docks in San Pedro and features a large amount of aquatic life. It would be great for snorkeling trips. I went as a diver and between the large amount of people, shallow depths, and currents it didn't make for a great dive site. If you are a diver you're better off skipping this one and just visiting local reefs outside of the reserve.
