Located in Apopka along Rock Springs Run, King’s Landing is the perfect place to launch a canoe or kayak for an unforgettable day exploring Rock Springs Run. You may rent a canoe or kayak and noodle around up or downstream, but the real excitement is in doing the downstream round-trip. For $30.00, King’s provides canoe, paddles, floatation jackets and a pick up and return to your vehicle from Wekiva Marina. The pick-up and return trip can be taken at your own pace. This part of the run is about 8 miles, all downstream, is unguided and generally takes about 4-6 hours to do the one-way trip, depending on how much time you take to swim or stop for a picnic lunch.
Florida wildlife abounds including otters, fish, alligators, deer, birds and the occasional bear, especially if you go weekdays when the humans are few. Paddling can become challenging in places due to sharp turns in the Run and downed trees that must be navigated over or around. Pick up times are 2:00, 3:30, 5:00 on weekends or 3:30 weekdays.
For $10 you can launch your own canoe/kayak and for $10.00 more they will transport you and your boat back to King’s. If you are inexperienced or have never done this Run, contact Central Florida Nature Adventures as they have guided tours that launch from King’s Landing and can offer options you may not know exist on Rock Springs Run.
