“Significantly lacking in attention to detail”
Reviewed 4 April 2012 via mobile

The rooms are dusty, the beds uncomfortable and the staff ill-equipped to deal with any requests for minor improvements. I have stayed at many hotels in the US and Europe and rank my experience at the Grand Hyatt as one of the worst. I woke up daily with swollen eyes and sneezing from the dust in the room and wouldnt stay at this hotel again

I attended a conference here and was unable to get the conference rate, so paid over $400 a night. Great location, fine service. My room was interior view and a very long walk from the elevators (rooms are arranged in an oval around a beautiful lobby courtyard - elevators are at the top of the oval and my room was at the bottom). The walk was not a problem, but with kids it would be really tough to keep them quiet all that way. Room was clean. Shower was really dark with the curtain closed. Conference and event noise from the atrium was loud and distracting - I would have preferred street noise. I kept checking to see if the window was closed (it was). Some drunks started playing the piano around midnight, which was annoying. Overall, I simply paid too much for an average hotel room. I would have been happy if I paid $150. Maybe $200. But in no way was it worth $440. They also tried to charge me $10 a night for access, but I complained given my rate and they didn't charge me.

We got a room on short notice for a night out & a concert. The Hyatt had a suite on the 11th floor. Room was clean, beds comfortable, room stylish & fresh ground coffee for the in-room coffee maker was a pleasant surprise. Kids liked the TV in the bathroom. The living room was a nice size, again - clean & comfortable. Breakfast buffet - really good! The bacon - I wish I new where to buy it. Wish we'd had a little more time to hang out in the room as it had that nice - relaxing feel of space and 'being away' relaxation to be had at a good hotel. Oh yeah - if you like great beer - They have Dog's Head in the bar/Room service.

Hyatt is always a good choice and this was no different.

The Grand Hyatt is located near the Washington Convention Center and Chinatown. A cheap way to get here is to take the DC Metro to Metro Center and follow the exits towards 11th Street/Arena. This is a nice hotel, with an amazing atrium. The staff is generally friendly and there are a lot of eateries inside and close by.

Pros:
--It has easy access to the Metro (you don’t have to go outside).
--They offer Portico Spa bath products (White-Ginger scent) in bathroom.

Cons:
--Its proximity to the Convention Center along with three underground levels of conference rooms means that it will often be very busy.
--You have to pay for using the gym/pool.
--Internet runs $10.99 for Standard- and $15.99 for Premium-Service.

Rating:
Even though it costs to use the gym/pool, I would have given the Hyatt a higher rating had it not been for my reservation being changed twice in a row (in February and March 2012): I had requested a king bed and was given double beds. Make sure to printout your reservation details and bring them with you for check-in.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing outside (versus the indoor atrium) if you prefer some privacy. Otherwise, gue...

Stayed at this hotel last summer.. Loved it! The restaurants were fantastic. The room was very large, clean, and attractive. Location was great. The indoor pool was tiny and the most unpleasant thing about the hotel, but the kids enjoyed it anyway.
