Well, my girlfriend and I weren't expecting much stopping in at the Parthenon tonight before a movie. It's a casual neighborhood restaurant, not super fancy and not much to look at from out front. But wow, weren't we surprised.
To start with the place was clean, the tables done up nicely and the room cozy...little crowded, but not too much. Our host was courteous and welcoming, out water glasses filled-up immediately by a polite young man, and our waiter who professed to be from Greece was helpful from start to finish...recommending entrees, salads, wine and dessert. Service was quick.
The food was fantastic. We split a large Horiatiki Salad which was more than ample for two and tasted fresh and appetizing. The bread was good, not great, but good. My girlfriend had Xiphias Souvlaki (swordfish) and I had Paidakia Tis Skaras (lamb chops), were great. For dessert we had Baklava and Galakto Bouriko, both were obviously homemade and divine.
That said, we eat a lot of Greek and Mediterranean food, and have been to Greece just last year. This place is great and well worth the visit. We will return.
