For tapas, our favorites were the fried dates in bacon, stuffed peppers, and the scallops...mmm. We had to order seconds of the dates and the scallops! The cocktail tour app we were following recommended a caipirinha, which was awesome. And, save room for dessert - the flan is the best ever!

My sister recommended the restaurant and it was great. the crystal bread was very good the chicken croquettes were also good. The flan was to die for and the chocolate soufflé was great. The whole family enjoyed the experience.

This restaurant was literally within walking distance from Pennsylvania Ave - where we stayed in an apartment with views of the Archives, Washington Monument...so it was a treasure - given it was in such close proximity too to our base in DC.
This place is buzzing - so preferably book if you want a table. We started at the bar and about 45 minutes later took a table when one became available. This suited us and we often enjoy mingling amongst others given we are travelling together for extended periods.
Busy every night of the week....it is so, because the food - the tapas is very well done. It is creative, fresh, wonderful fare. The tapas menu is extensive and it allows a wonderful exploration of great food and variety, if sharing. We shared about 7-8 plates between 2 people, and enjoyed a wonderful dessert that was something like a mousse - though not so described in the menu with olive oil drizzle and a crisp bread on top, with a wonderful homemade icecream which was all amazing. An extensive wine list and an attentive helpful waitress who suggested some dishes meant we had a marvellous experience. We enjoyed scallops, foie gras, bell peppers stuffed with goats cheese, a salad of pinenuts, raisins and spinach, chorizo, beef, chicken dishes - all had immense flavour and and were cooked to perfection and presented with flair and colour on the plate.
A fun, lively restaurant with a bar....and a very creative, modern fitout...that embued great atmposhpere. Very reasonably priced. We went back on our last night in town. While they were out of the scallops and our favourite dessert - we managed to get in before the kitchen closed at 10pm...so understandable. A great restaurant in the Penn Quarter....definitely worth a visit. Large groups, couples, friends all seem to be accommodated in the layout without impacting negatively on those seated around.

We started off with fried dates wrapped in bacon. Our party ate 3 plates and ordered one to take home. The "Espinacas a la catalana" (spinach salad) is also awesome. Our table of 3, all sharing, ordered this twice. Any of the Carnes plates are just plain fantastic. We had three different ones and they were all awesome. The desserts were all very good and I can't single one out as the best. And the sangria is pretty darn good too.

I get it that this fabulous tapas place is trying to procure locally, and that tomatoes are out of season, but I am pining away for the best gazpacho in DC (except for maybe Estadios)! I can't wait for tomatoe season 2012 - if I make it that long. But everything else is great, too. The scallops are amazing, salads great. Ingredients are authentic and the pork is a special treat. Jose Andres does it again!
