This restaurant is far and away our family's favorite place in DC. The menu is flexible and almost every dish can be modified to accommodate allergies, dining preferences, etc. The seasonal lobster bisque is literally mouth-watering, as is my favorite mussels gratin dish, which is slightly different each time. My husband adores the boudin blanc and we all love the arugula salad, which has a dressing that is absolutely sublime. The cheese available for the cheese course is always superb.

We celebrated our anniversary here, and have been several times before. This is the best French restaurant in DC, and one of the finest of any cuisine in the City. The food is incredible, the service is fantastic, and the ambience is superb. The restaurant has a car/driver and will happily transport you to/from nearby hotels if you call. Marcel's also offers a theater fix prix that is a great value, including transport to and from the Kennedy Center, etc. Save your last course for dessert and coffee or drinks after a show.

You really cannot top Marcel's for a special occasion! Highly recommended!

Busy on a Sat. night in summer lull with Embassy and K St. power types, i.e. seemed like most of the guests were charging the meal and not paying these prices themselves as we were. Seated half hour after our reservation time, then, inexcusably, waited another 20 min for server to appear with menus, which he apologized for. I may not be recognized, but know a lot about food.

Concept is amazingly flexible in that you can select your own course menu (minimum 4) freely with no category limits and the table does not need to all have the same number. A big plus.

I tend to agree with Dan G that each dish should be awesome in this setting, but there were some misses: the famed boudin sounded interesting and I added it as an unplanned addl. course. The spongey sausage was dominated by the (tasty) black truffle sauce, which I mentioned when asked, but this was not the correct reply apparently. (Server replied "we don't like to hear that" but then why ask?...) Likewise the funnel cake is something from a county fair complete with powdered sugar, playful yes, but jarring pairing with foie gras. Bison was perfectly prepared and desserts held up.

Service for the nobodys was odd: the server's assistant would randomly appear at the table to be assured everything was fine. Like following instructions rather than genuine.

A couple of the nearby tables were celebrating birthdays. It was my birthday too; they knew because they asked when making reservation and wished happy b'day when we arrived, but that was it. I wonder how they decide who gets a candle?

We dined here for an extension of our anniversary (we celebrate for an entire week - not just on the actual date) and it was better than expected. We chose the 4 courses but we each ordered something different which enabled us to try a bit of just about everything. The cocktail menu was inventive. Our server was attentive, allowing just the perfect amount of time between courses.
