We had a very good experience at Kellari. We went for dinner and at first were disappointed that the fixed dinner menu in their website wasn't offered that night. We decided to have a salad and several appetizers for our meal. Terrific choice! Lovely attention, they bring a little dish of delicious olives as well as a great humus as soon as you sit down. Our food arrived promptly. The Greek salad was fantastic as was the Saganaki cheese. The grilled octopus and the grilled calamari were also terrific. I thought the sardines were just ok, grilled would have probably be better for me. I had an interesting glass of Greek wine. No dessert because we were full! The service was wonderful. Great staff, friendly and professional. They were attentive without being intrusive. The prices were reasonable. A few steps away from the a Mayflower Hotel, it is a great option. We will be back next time we're in DC!

I had a business luncheon at Kellari last week; my first visit. We had limited time and ordered the 3-course meal. The food was fantastic as was the service. I had calamari, fish, and pastry dessert. All the food was hot and delicious. It is a busy restaurant at lunch time, so reserving is a good idea. I will definitely be back!

This is one of the best restaurants I've tried while in DC. The food? Amazing! The customer service? Fantastic! Chris was our waiter and he was so helpful and friendly. We had a 3 course meal. The first course was a salad with such an amazing dressing, it came with grilled calamari as well and this complemented the salad beautifully.
The second course was magnificent - chicken in a creamy sauce and the best mashed potatoes I have ever had(pardon me for I do not know the actual name)
The third course was so good! We were served 3 different pastries- an egg custard filled phyllo pastry, a honey and walnut phyllo pastry, a moist cake soaked in lemon (juice?) and a fruit platter of blueberries, mangoes, pineapples, strawberries and orange segments.
I would definitely come back here. Great food, great ambience, great staff!

Kellari could be one of the best Greek restaurants in DC, but unfortunately, and probably because of their business success, they have become complacent both with the quality of their cuisine, as well as with their service.

Let me start with the service; on a recent lunch date, we sat at the bar to have a couple of glasses of wine and then lunch. The bar tender, a young Bulgarian girl, when asked if she had a selection of "Rose" wines replied that unfortunately they only had one Rose and that was a Greek Rose. We my dear, this is a Greek restaurant and you don't need to apologize for the Greek wines. After pouring the wine, she simply disappeared; no further service. She preferred to focus on her conversation with the other Bulgarian help.

The disappointing engagement continued with over-priced Greek selections that included pastry dishes that used frozen "filo" that for the price should have been hand-rolled.

I know that I am being harsh, but there is always a "tipping point" when it comes to these critiques; for example, if the bill was cheap - I would rate the food here as very good, however in Kellari's case, you are paying Waldorf Astoria prices for food that is just good, and service that is a bad.

I guess as a Greek, I should not go to Greek restaurants in America :)

This used to be my favorite restaurant in DC but not any more. We were a group of seven for dinner and it was the worst dining experience ever. The appetizers came an hour late and dinner two hours. When we asked the waiter, he said they had a large group that they needed to accommodate. I ordered lamp chops (well done), they cooked it rare and that is after a two hours wait for it. The entire group was done with their plates when my well done lamp chops came. I had to rush to finish because everyone was ready to leave. The waiter deducted one meal from the bill but that didn't make up for the very bad service.

What a disappointment.
