After civics, this is a great place to visit to bring it all together. Stay for the 30-minute lecture in the courtroom. It wasn’t busy when we went but the lecture line up was easy. You can also schedule a lecture through your representative.

On a recent visit to Washington, we were impressed not only by the Supreme Court Building but by the interesting lecture provided by a docent that was delivered in the actual court room. Various informative displays were available on the main level.

Entry is to the right of the big front steps. Plan on staying about an hour to hour and a half. The lectures occur frequently during the days when the judicial chamber is free.

I arranged for a tour through my Congress person. We actually sat inside the Supreme Court, as there were no hearings that date. We heard a very interesting lecture on how the court works. And how amazing to think we were in the Supreme Court!

Plan on spending 2 hours to see everything. We arrived after doing the Capitol tour and Library of Congress tour. The Supreme Court is next door, so it's a good three building combo to do. Inside there are pictures and plaques to read about the construction of the building, a 20+/- minute movie to watch plus a volunteer talk in the chamber. We arrived late enough in the day there was a limited amount of time to view the interior. Then we had to make a decision: movie or live talk. We opted for talk. I think it would have been good if it was a different speaker. Ours was just, well, rather boring and dry. Since I work in the law field I was interested in the subject matter, but our speaker couldn't hold my interest! I will be visiting again and give myself enough time to see everything and hopefully get a better speaker.

Visited inside and outside of the building just briefly. It was more like a museum than a courthouse.
