Negatives: We chose this accomodation because the description (in the NZ B&B Book) led us to believe that as a house built in 1925 for a doctor, it would have history - the outside was as expected, the inside had little or no history more than ten years old! Led through a breeze block hallway with rooms off was off putting. Our room had no robe space and the bathroom was TINY with a toilet and shower squeezed in longside the SMALLEST sink I have ever seen (unless you look at a caravan sink) no room for toileteries except a bar of soap.
Who would want to use a swimming pool that was overlooked by everyone who passed on the road?

Positives: Good value, ground floor room, VERY clean, reasonable sized room, comfortable bed, laundry facilities (if required at extra charge) car parking and a reasonably friendly host.

I would recommend this B&B for one night or back packers

Room Tip: Go for ground floor wih ensuite

We stayed both before and after our Queen Charlotte tramp. The stay on both occasions was extremely good. The bathroom wasn't huge but the rooms and whole B&B is very clean and well maintained. We could not have asked for any more - help with getting our washing up together, keeping our luggage while on the tramp and on our last day before our train journey etc.

We recently decided to tramp the Queen Charlotte Track and stayed at Marineland B&B in Picton at start and finish of our walk. The owners Rosemary and Peter couldn't have been more helpful and my wife and I both felt that their level of service and accommodation offered was exceptionally good value. One our first night we stayed in a upstairs room that had great character and a comfy bed. The room offered a wash basin and shared toilets and showers with the other upstairs rooms. Everything was spotlessly clean, bathrobes were provided, we could make a cuppa in our room and located downstairs was lovely lounge with internet and sky TV. Next morning Rosemary offered a early breakfast so we could catch the first water taxi to start of the QC track with a great breaky of rhubarb, home made bread and gluten free options for one of us. Because we were coming back in a few days Rosemary also stored a bag of our gear we didn't want to carry.
When we arrived back at the end of our tramp we stayed in a downstairs room with ensuite, tv and a huge king sized bed. The swimming pool was fantastic and we also washed our clothes in their laundry. We had said we were keen to do a wine trail the next morning and Rosemary had all the options available and made the booking on our behalf.
What else can I say about Marineland? Great location and we walked into Picton in minutes, very comfortable accommodation that was traditional but homely and sincere hosts that were friendly and cheerful and definitely not overbearing. We are planning another trip to South Island with friends and will definitely stay here again.

My wife and I spent one night at the Marineland B&B in Picton after catching the ferry from Wellington.

Rosemary the owner was very friendly and welcoming on our arrival.

We were in a deluxe room on the ground floor. The room was small, but comfy enough for the two of us. It had a double bed which, soft and comfy and had a small TV with the three local channels available. Our room also had a shower and toilet in it. I have to agree with the other reviewers though, that if you don’t know each other intimately then these rooms might not be for you as you can see and hear everything when these facilities are used. It wasn't an issue for us.

A continental breakfast was included and was a nice start to the day.

The communal lounge is a nice area to wind down. Sky TV is available here.

Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would happily stay here again.

We were a family of 5 adults traveling and on a whim decided to stay overnight in Picton so we could take a day trip on the Marlborough Sounds. Rosemary, lady in charge was able to kindly supply us at short notice three rooms downstairs with ensuites. The rooms were a little on the spartan side, but very clean and adequate for an overnight and all had televisions. Breakfast was included in room rate and was continental - definitely a no fuss brekkie. Good comfy communal lounge with large TV. Definitely Ok for the money. Big advantage was the three minute walk to the beautiful wharf and park area where we caught the Cougar line ( great and obliging guy at the helm) which was a bit cheaper than the Beachcomber line and he took us to the Bay of Many Coves ( high end resort) for brunch - it was perfect - then collected us on the return - great value for the custom $75 although we added to the bunch allowance and had a very very good lunch with good SB. If on a budget would thoroughly recommend for both convenience and the money.

Room Tip: The rooms downstairs have ensuites but upstairs have a two room shared ensuite so downstiars is bett...
