This place is so cute! It appears to be a converted house into a hostel. The yard in front is beautiful with a patio and front deck and lots of chairs/picnic tables for chilling out at.

We stayed in one of the cabins outside the main building as a couple and therefore probably had more privacy than those staying in the house. The cabin was very nice and cosy, only downside was having to go outside to use the bathroom in the rain. But the pro's outweigh the cons here. Bed was super comfy, quiet and warm. The back/outdoor-accessed shower had crazy water pressure you won't find anywhere else. i hate showers with little pressure that takes ages to get the shampoo out.

The host and owner, Nikki, is a lovely laid back person running a small hostel with lots of personal touches. There is a veggie/herb garden with fresh herbs, tomatoes and grapes. There is a sizeable line for drying clothes on out back. She sells eggs for 50c each if you fancy some and don't want to buy a whole dozen to cart around as a backpacker. Breakfast of homemade bread and jam and coffee for $8 is very tasty. This place has lots of extras. All of these above as well as fire shows and juggling acts in the evening, which were fantastic!

Also - Omi the cat is so cute!! She is super cuddly and sweet tabby cat hanging around the house. Makes it easier not to miss your own cat. :)

Its very close walking-distance to Picton town via either a trail alongside a stream or using main streets. Plenty of on-street parking as well if you have a car.

It was clean and well looked after and seemed to have a good, welcoming social vibe going on. Though we are quieter types and did our own thing most of the time, it was easy to see people getting on and most staying were very friendly!

The only suggestion I can make is to maybe put up a bigger or more obvious sign where to go when you arrive to check in. It was a bit confusing going around the side of the house to the office, but luckily a friendly backpacker was there to tell us. Best of luck selling the place to the right people, Nikki!

Room Tip: couples, pick the cabins!

Aw, Erin thanks So much for thaking the itme to review us in so much depth. Much appreciated :-) Yes, I'll get some better signage sorted for the office/check-in. Often I'm in the house too..and I can see that it can be confusing. Thanks for the tip. Hope to see you again sometime! Purrs from Omi :-)

Really nice feel here. The garden was great to chill in and around the house has a nice homely feel.
Nikki the owner was great. She is very welcoming and she puts out a-lot of fruit and veg to help yourself to. Also, we accidentally left sunglasses and she offered to drive them to us which was so nice!
Highly recommend!

This hostel was rated one of the best in the world by Huff Post and it’s no wonder. A beautiful house with a perfect host, Nikki. She gave me an impromptu juggling lesson! Also, grape vines hang from awnings everywhere-and these are life changing grapes. Seriously, they changed my concept of grapes. There’s also an extensive herb and vegetable garden that take making dinner to another level. There are no bunks and the beds are SO comfortable. I’ve never found such great hospitality in my travels.
Thank you SO MUCH Nikki!

Beautiful rooms and a country kitchen accompanied with abundant tomatoes and grapes from the garden. A gorgeous veranda to chill and eat on in the sun and a warm fire and sofa to go in to if there's a chill in the air.

Nikki makes the place all the more homely and is always lovely to chat to. So glad I am staying here, couldn't have asked for more!

Oh, and if you didn't think it could get better you may also be lucky to witness the hypnotising fire performances.

Over the years i have stayed in many hostel, but have never come across anything like Jugglers Rest. What a beautiful hostel. It feels like coming home with such a relaxing vibe. The beautiful garden, free herbs, fruit and veggies, bikes, makes it even better. The hostel provides everything you need and is in a easy walking distance from all town picton. A perfect place to just relax and get a sense of home while your travelling around nz or exploring the area. Would recommand it to everyone!!

Thanks for this Hester! Your warmth and gratitude of the space I offer to my guests is very much appreciated. It's such a treat to have people say thanks and I really enjoyed meeting you briefly. I hope that you can return for another visit when your schedule allows.
I'll do my very best to find some more people to buy Jugglers Rest who get the vibe and wish it to continue running with the same welcoming and relaxed feel ;-)
